Long Rookie Holdouts

I've got to the first preseason game, and both Darren McFadden and Mario Manningham are both still holding out. I figured if I kept a hard line, bother players would sign offer 1. It hasn't happened yet though, and they are going to lose valuable time if I don't sign them soon. Should I meet both players closer to the middle to get them signed?

I wouldn't meet the demands. Missing one or two preseason games will give them a slower start to the season because they won't have their playbooks down as well, but its more than worth the savings usually. I never go above offer 1 with rookies and I've only had two holdouts miss more than one preseason game and both were in camp for preseason week 3.

I've also got sign McFadden before the regular season as a goal, it just raises the stakes. I'll keep the hard line a couple more weeks, see if either player caves. I've already come off offer 1 with Manningham, but there's not much difference between the lowest offer and what I offered him, so I'm not worried too much.

I guess I am a big softy. If I see a player is the "superstar" personality and he is a higher pick I tend to offer higher numbers to end it quickly.

I hold out on the rookies...never sign one to anything but offer 1. The only time I had one go past the start of the regular season his POT was revealed and I didnt want him anyway so I never signed him.

To be honest I dont remember. He was a no-name player that I drafted in the later rounds. I just kept ignoring him and I dont even remember him coming up during FA to try and sign with anyone.

I have simmed through the first season before and didn't realize I had not signed a rookie because I was just looking to move ahead to the 2nd year. I think if you do not cut the player the option to sign him will keep coming up thoughout the season. If the player goes unsigned he will be available in the free agent pool the following year. I did notice the player who I think was Matt Ryan took a big hit in potential sitting out the whole year. I think Ryan is usually 88-90 depending on philosophy and when I picked him back up realizing the mistake he had a potential of 82-83.
