Officially Abandoned?

Haven't seen the devs for a couple of weeks. I bet we won't hear a peep from them anymore. Honestly, I am not suprised, I have bought other EA games before.

I didn't want to say anything before, because I didn't want to speak too soon. BUT... The way EA is supporting this product is in my opinion not ethical. They abandon games like this all the time, but that doesn't make it right. The product should function as intended, not as is barely sufficient.

This is exactly why I have only bought one EA Sports game is the last three years. Even at that, I bought it used for almost nothing.

Re: Officially Abandoned?

you really shouldnt come down so hard on them. they went above and beyond what is normally seen from developers. thier job is not simply to develop head coach. they work on that and then they are given something else to do. furthermore, josh still does post on here once in a while. nothing like at first, but if you seriously expect them to keep up that level of attention then you need to lower your expectations. the worst part is, complaints like this only make things worse. im assuming the developers of head coach put in a LOT of time and effort into identifying and fixing the problems that were included in the original release. then they released the patch in a reasonable amount of time. sure there was praise initially, but basically a month later some people are reverting to complaining, complaining, and more complaining. its gotta be demoralizing to the developers to see this, and i would imagine that it certainly doesnt increase thier ambition or desire to put forth this kind of effort again.

im not trying to attack or offend the original poster, so please dont take it personally. you certainly have the right to complain, and you probably think its justified. i disagree though. it just sucks to see people complaining despite what was some of the best developer-gamer interaction ive seen.

Re: Officially Abandoned?

I am not saying the developers themselves are at fault, but EA Sports. The fact is that EAS is abandoning the game in a relatively unfinished state. That could be considered unethical in the software world.

I am glad to see that EAS actually did something in a more realistic fashion with the Madden engine, but it doesn't make much sense to leave it unfinished, leaving alot of people feeling cheated to an extent.

Re: Officially Abandoned?

Im sorry you feel that the game has been abandoned. Personally I think its the best coaching game I've seen by a long long stretch. There were a few bugs (such as injuries/play creator) upon first release as part of the Madden anniversary package, but the developers in my opinion have been brilliant explaining causes and fixes and actually talking to us little end users. We were given a patch asap with all the fixes we had helped highlight, and I think the game is now excellent. Of course there are still a few minor problems (games / halfs ending on penalties is my own personal bug-bear) but that aside I am absolutely hooked....

The game had abysmal sales-you can find it for 10 dollars now.
They'd be all about it if it sold more.

Re: Officially Abandoned?

EA has historically had pretty bad support for their games. Basically, they are all about the $$$ and they've ruined many great franchises all the way back to the days when they ruined the Ultima series.

The last head coach was so buggy it was virtually unplayable and they never put out a patch to fix those problems. We should feel lucky that we got a patch this time around.

My guess is that our only hope is the game is rolled into Madden. I hope they put out another version of Head Coach because I think it has an audience if it is done right -- this version of it was simply too poor to catch on to anyone other than us football sim nuts -- but I would be surprised to see them keep going with a game that hasn't had the sales to support developing it.

Re: Officially Abandoned?

I actually like the game and haven't encountered any issues or freezes. Also I don't consider the game "half-finished" and its the only game I've playing for the past few months.

I agree with other posters, its a great game with some minor issues, but name a game that doesn't have some sort of minor issues.

Re: Officially Abandoned?

Truth is, most people that wanted NFL Head Coach bought is as part the Madden Collector edition. I know I did. I hope that EA takes that into account when they decide to make another Head Coach.
