Re: Bill Abner's first Head Coach Impressions

Remember though, there were no wide outs drafted in rnd 1 in the real draft, either. The WR talent pool is deep in this draft, just not much first rnd talent. They'll start falling in round 2, I'm assumimg.

The thing about Stewart -- my GM told me that he was the most overrated HB coming into the draft, maybe other teams got the memo? I LOVE guys falling like that as long as it's rare.

I just hope that teams don't draft more than 1 QB, or take 3 running backs, ala Madden. The way the game is going right now that would surprise me, but I'm naturally cautious.

The Packers took two QB's in the real draft -- Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn. It's rare, but it does happen.

I'm with you, though. The draft sounds great, and the logic seems spot-on. If you got a message from your GM about Stewart, and that's why he fell, that's frickin' awesome! I truly don't think words can express my anticipation level for this game.

Now is where the game gets even more awesome. When do you take a shot at the player labeled "Overrated"? Trade up in the 2nd and get him to run with Lewis or be his heir-apparent. I already love this game.

Wow, I am really liking everything I am reading. Thanks for all of the info Bill. If your impressions continue the way they have started I definitely see myself staying up all night playing this game. I don't remember the last time I did that.

If you knew about the curse of 370 you would not be worried about it. You have to have two running backs these days.

Re: Bill Abner's first Head Coach Impressions

I don't know how good the draft logic is in terms of trading down (if it was explained I missed it in all the little details that have been talked about)...but if it's life-like, the Bears will trade down in the later rounds just to pick up more draft picks...just for the hell of it, it seems.

Can you let us know if they do? Obviously no rush, just throwing it out there.

Each team uses it's team roadmap when making draft pick decisions, along with individual scouting information (each team makes scouting decision just like the user's team will) and their philosophies. Just like each team has system philosophies, they also have philosophies for drafting best available/draft for need and they have philosophies for trading up or down in the draft.

The roadmap plays the biggest part. Teams can draft multiple players at a position ONLY if they are updating multiple needs ie...starting QB and backup QB later on.

The other thing to remember is that our 2008 draft is after free agency, so some teams may have filled a need at the position they drafted for in real life. In other words, in our game the Eagles may not have signed Asante Samuel. That can change the outcome of the draft.

The main reason Jonathan Stewart falls out of the first round (and I hope this isn't too big of a spoiler...) is his injury issues. His durability grade is low because of the toe injury right off the bat.

That's something you'll need to pay attention to in future classes. Listen carefully when Adam Schefter or Todd McShay gives you an update on the draft. If they have reservations about a rookie (or talk about a devastating injury he suffers during their college updates) because of injuries, that could really factor in when he's drafted.

And is everyone else as fired up as I am that I can hear football on TV behind me as I type this?

Woo-hoo!
