I suspect they just did that for unveiling purposes and such. I recall Kentucky's uniforms and maybe Mizzou's being this way as well.

UH officially unveiled the new helmets and jerseys yesterday.

strange that Houston uses one of the newest helmets (360) to show the old helmet and the new design is using the oldest vsr helmet that almost no one uses now.

This was confirmed by the Colorado Gazette, who covers everything Air Force football. Notice the new helmet stripe, and gray shoulders and numbers, different from last year. I really hope these make it in the game! Thanks guys!

Here’s pictures of the uniforms that were on display at tonight’s event – I’ll double check in the next few days to try and confirm if these are the actual 2012 uniforms (UPDATE: Yes, it’s confirmed, these will be the Air Force primary uniforms this season. They’ll have white, blue and gray pants they can match in different combinations with the jerseys, and the two different helmets shown here. The helmet stripe is just the one down the middle, not the three-stripe look from the past):

I can't wait for college football to progress to "retro is cool". Some of these uniforms are so bad they would look out of place in arena football or the XFL.
