Should Create-A-Play/Formation Ever return?

Free form creates a problem more from a coding perspective than it does a "cheese" perspective. There are too many variables to work in and I really don't want EA fooling around with that. Not only would offense have to be factored in by defensive alignments and interactions would have to be factored in. If you have free form, you have to program the defense to react to every single little thing and inevitably, things would get missed.

I'd rather it be modular. It allows a ton of customization but caps the amount of variables to take a load off the coding. For example, alignments could be limited to:

Quarterback

Under center
Pistol
Shotgun

Running Back

Single back (7-8 yd depth)
Pistol (2-3 yd depth)
Shotgun (even and offset)
Wing (1x1 out and back from the end man on the line)
Split (Offset behind G-T, 6-8 yd depth)

Fullback

I (4-5 yd depth)
Flex (Same as I)
Offset I (Same depth, offset 2-3 yds)
Pistol (Same as Offset I)
Shotgun (Same as RB)
Split (Same as RB)

Wide Receiver

Tight (On/Off)
Close (On/Off)
Regular (On/Off)
Wide (On/Off

That would provide nearly limitless combinations for WR's. If you wanted to create a Trips Stack alignment, you could go:

WR 1: Wide On
WR 2: Wide Off (aligned right behind 1)
WR 3: Wide Off (aligned right behind 2)

Obviously this could be done in addition to the already installed WR packages like basic trips, bunch, etc.

Tight End

All FB and WR alignments all combined.

Offensive Line

Regular (About a foot)
Wide (1-2 yard splits ala Mike Leach)
Unbalanced
Special (Something like Fight Song where a T splits wide)

That creates a wide variety of options in formations and alignment all the while limiting the number of things that need to be taken into account.

They need to improve the offensive line play first. I say this so they can work on things like zone stepping, taking a proper veer (not the trash they do now on option plays), folds, fans etc. etc.

Then you can install proper blocking schemes, and rules to truly have a create a play function.


I think defense is primed to have an excellent create a play function. With all the added disguised overages, you install proper rules for your individual defense.

i don't understand why EA removes features nobody was complainin' about....

i didn't use the feature.. per se...

but i thought it was a cool idea...and i could see it's usefulness...
