Quarterback composure

OK, so I started a new season in my Michigan dynasty last night. I have a red-shirt junior quarterback who is 80 OVR with 69 AWR. I have a red-shirt freshman quarterback who is 81 OVR with 68 AWR.

Well, I like the idea of starting the freshman and seeing what kind of career stats I can rack up with him. I open the season at Buffalo. The red-shirt freshman starts and there are squiggly lines all over the place, playing on the road in a stadium that is half full against a crappy team. I just give him a lot of short routes to get him started, he starts out 8-for-9, but I yank him after he threw a pick on the 10th pass. I put in the red-shirt junior and the routes are nice and clean.

I figured the AWR rating is what controlled composure, but I guess not. It seems like in the old-gen versions of NCAA Football, you could see a composure bar for a player. Is there any way to know a player's composure and likelihood of correcting it by playing well? Or do you just have to throw him to the wolves (or, in this case, the Bulls) and see what happens?

BTW, I think it's a very cool feature. It makes you think twice about putting a freshman on the field who has raw skills over a veteran player who may not have all the tools, but who doesn't get rattled.

Re: Quarterback composure

You cant really tell by the (nonexistant) crowd noise, but the stadiums do get louder/quieter through out the game. Even with the same QB in the whole time, the squiggly routes come and go.

It could be your freshman being rattled, but it could also just be the crowd wasn't as "loud". I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the AWR is the only thing the game looks at, not if he's a freshman or not.

As for composure, on PS3 if you hit L2+down (right stick I believe) you can see if players are 'hot' (red) normal (grey) or rattled (blue)

In this case, the freshman was rattled on every play, even after completing some passes, while the junior never was, even though I went deep with him more and he had a lower completion percentage. It was easier for me to see the routes, so I stuck with the junior, who did not throw a pick until the sixth game of the season.

Thanks for the tip on the L2 hot/cold thing. I never knew that. I wonder if that actually translates to a receiver making tougher catches, a running back breaking tackles, etc. (which, BTW, I get very few broken tackles in a season. Not sure if it's the game or my sad stick skillz - probably the latter).

QB Composure is a very cool feature. I'm not sure what they base it on...doesn't look like it's just awareness. Maybe class and awareness?

The one thing I wish they brought back from last gen is seeing the opponent's composure. While it was somewhat unrealistic seeing if an opposing player was rattled, it was the quickest in-game way to see if the opponent was playing an inexperienced player. This is a realistic, big part of football, as it helps create mismatches. Think about how many times in real games QBs take advantage of true Freshman DBs.

To take it one step further, whether you see the opponent's composure could be based on your QB's composure. Your frosh QB might not see the mismatch (hide opponent's composure), but your JR QB could.

I dont know what the official outcome is but from my experience I've noticed that 'cold' olinemen are worse at picking up blocks, cold WRs have more balls jarred loose on big hits and QBs tend to be a bit more erratic. Never had a 'cold' HB so dont know about them.

@BigDuke - yea I like that idea. Maybe it could be tied to awareness though. So maybe all opposing players who have lower awareness than your QB will show their composure, the rest just wont show anything.

It would be nice to see on defense too - then you would know to bring a blitz right at that rattled lineman or know to big hit that wr that's having a bad streak. It would have to be based on one player though - maybe the FS (when hes in...) or the team captain or something.

Re: Quarterback composure

didn't madden have this kind of feature a few years back where if your mlb had some kind of awareness rating he could basically see the play? it may still be in madden, i wouldn't know as i don't buy it anymore?
