Position Change Decision...

My otherwise lowly Utah State team has a stud WR. He's 85 overall, with 84 speed (so so) but 99 acceleration, 90 Agility, 69 Strength, 91 jumping, 90 stamina, 92 injury, 90 elusiveness, 89 spin move, 96 juke move, 82 catching...

The guy will be a workhorse for my team, but I'm more of a pro-style team and he also translates very well to HB (though his overall dorps to 79, this is still before training).

I'm really considering moving him to HB, where he'll get more touches, and I can still throw passes to him out of the backfield. Any comments? My only concern is his carrying is 71, which isn't terrible, but I'd hate for him to cough up the ball a lot if he's getting a lot of carries (and with 90 stamina and 92 injury, he will).

I would make the switch. He will improve in carrying, and other HB attributes. Also you can formation sub him to WR in throwing formations and put him in good match-ups.

I really wouldn't. cpu generated WR's rarely have any juke, elusiveness, stiff arm, spin moves, etc... A halfback with 84 speed for me is kinda blah even with 99 ACC. The same guy at WR is dynamic.

Keep him at WR, maybe change up playbook with a wildcat formation to get him more touches

Just because you run a pro style system does not mean you can't throw him the ball. Like someone said an 84spd is not game breaker for a HB but for a WR it is. With a 99acc he will kill out in space.

Re: Position Change Decision...

Leave him at WR, with that accel he will be awesome on drags and slants.

Re: Position Change Decision...

agreed. Leave him at WR....with a HB you are going to want a higher speed then 84 or at least more strength to run over tacklers.

Also, dont worry so much about the overral ratings of players. Look for certain attributes and just make the switch. If you look at overral too much, you'll end up missing alot of diamonds you otherwise thought were just lumps of coal.

I make most of my position changes based on size.

Re: Position Change Decision...

Done this before.
Never doing it again.
Every game had negative yards after contact with him, could only gain yards on tosses, stretches and off-tackles.

If you really wanna get the ball in his hands in space do a lot of end-arounds or jet sweeps.

Re: Position Change Decision...

Thanks for all the feedback. I agree normally I would not switch a WR to HB because they lack some of the power and moves one needs, even if the OVR seems high. But in this case his stats are very good for a HB.

I didn't read the 6 most recent comments until AFTER I'd decided to put him at HB (I was pressed for time when I read this and the first comment to switch him seemed logical).

After training he's an OVR 81 with speed bump to 85 and carrying to 73. I have a pretty solid backup HB (73 OVR, Speed 91) so I think what I'll do is oftentimes move this new WR/HB around to try and get him the ball. Line him up at WR in some formations, throw to him out of the backfield when he's a HB, even have him line up in the slot.
