NCAA 10 ratings

I have noticed that player ratings don't really matter. A 65 rated DB can cover a 90 rated WR. It just seems to me that you can't really notice a difference between average and good players. I can line up with the worst team in the game in man coverage and cover Texas wide out's pretty decent. Anyone else notice this.

Re: NCAA 10 ratings

First, the difference in ratings gets reduced at higher levels, such as Heisman. One of the reasons I've dropped to Varsity.

Second, it's not about the overall rating but the components like speed, agility, acceleration, awareness.

Third, pursuit angles and those related ratings come into play as well.

You need to look deeper.

I usually scout my dynasty CPU opponents for weaknesses, particularly the CB's. If an opposing CB has slow speed I'll depth chart adjust my fastest WR against that CB and run deeper patterns on him. If his agility is poor I'll run quick breaking routes like slants against him lining up my WR with best agility and route running attributes.

There is some pre-game strategy involved.

You are right. When a 4th string WR with a horrible press rating can bump an impact WR with a 90 press release something is wrong.

Well making stars stand out more than average players is something sports video games have been struggling with for years.

By my count Madden has tried a number of different things - from the weapons last year to the old IMP rating - to try and distinguish the stars from the just very goods.

As for the CB, that is probably because you play on Heisman. Doing so plays with the ratings of both teams to make the game more challenging, so the ratings of players aren't really 100 percent. This is why you have "slower" guys running down faster guys from behind (the old DL catching an RB complaint) and mediocre DEs harassing your QB all day long.

What level will rely on ratings with no modifiers? I didn't realize Heisman's difficulty was simply attribute boosting.

well varsity seems like the best. if you modify the sliders you can make it so that it isn't so freakin easy. there's quite a few varsity slider sets in the slider section of the forums so check it out there

That's good info.

Can any devs confirm? This should be a pretty simple answer. Maybe all of my issues with the run game are simply because I'm playing on too hard a mode and the computer is getting attribute boosts.

It was that way in 09 as well. the ratings have no impact nor does the class of a player, SR, Jr, ETC

That sounds awesome, but how can you do all of this if you are on Varsity? Do you win every game by blowout?
