How the hell did oblivion fit on 1 disc? I find this amazing as it only took up like 6GB or something from what I remember...

The 2nd disc could very well be optional too. It could just include stuff like extra artwork for more uniforms, commentary and crowd noise. Just the things that take up a lot of space. So on the first disc you still have the basic game we get every year and the 2nd disc will help add to the game.
Or ps3 gamers can stop complaining and just live with only 3 wrist band colors instead of 35.

What does install base have to do with which system the game is developed on?

As much as people hate to admit it, EA should start developing on the PS3 because more is possible.
i know and i agree with you but i was responding to someone that claimed their 360 ran perfect AFTER they had to have their original 360 replaced.

Are you serious? 4.6 million more potential customers isn't reason enough?

thats likely going to change. Forza 3 will be on 2 disc, although i don't think they have announce how it will be done or if it would force you to install the 2nd, but not sure of any other way around it. also Oblivion Game of the year edition has 2 disc and you have to install disc 2 which has the DLC stuff on it to the hard drive in order to play the DLC stuff.

it's likely "if" they went with 2 disc, they could put additional commentary(not all) on a 2nd disc, then allow you to install it. but yea, i find it hard to see how they could do a sports game without forcing you to install the 2nd disc.

I believe MS has already allowed some developers to be able to require hards drives for games(MMORPGs, and i think some others as well). some require hard drives for certain features.

This will not happen, because MS has already said thay will not use bluray. Bluray is a Sony Technology and MS doesn't want to use its competitors technology. Unless MS can come up with it's own bluray equal technology, then MS is sticking with HD-DVD.
