Re: NCAA 09 Gameplay Issues (response from EA)

For some reason, EA feels like they need to come up with a "gimmick" every year. They are going to sell games no matter what so I don't understand why they do this. Just improve the core gameplay every year and the game will be fine. I think the computer AI gets worse every year. With today's technology in gaming it should be much, much better.

I am having fun with this game and I look forward to it every year. However, I don't think any EA football game has been groundbreaking in a while. You have to have competition to make a game that is truly special.

Ian, I know you guys work really hard and put alot of hours into this. However, here is an idea. Next year's slogan should be "This IS Football!" I want the game to truly represent what we see on the field every Saturday.

I was playing the game today and haven't noticed the issues people are complaining about. I'm able to edit the rosters as much as I want and don't experience any crashing, the CPU QB does not complete 70%+ of it's passes and doesn't dink and dunk over the middle all day, the punt and kickoff coverage is not broken, there isn't an outrageous TD to INT ratio with QB stats in dynasty. The majority of QB's had 10+ interceptions and only 1 or 2 threw over 70% completions. I think everyone who's complaining about game-killing issues are just overexagerrating or flat out lying. Either that, or I have some miracle copy. Maybe next year they'll fix all of these imaginary issues for you when NCAA 09 comes out.

Congrats on getting the only copy with no issues!

After 40 + pages I think it's time we update the issues list a little with common issues we are seeing. I'm only going to add issues we've seen posted multiple times, not posted once or twice. After reading all these posts here's what I have come up with...

(Note: They're not in any specific order, I just wanted to compile a list and I'm not going to describe the issue in depth as most people know what the problem is.)

- DL Pass Rush (Doesn't exist)

Again, I'm not seeing this as much on Heisman. It's important to note I only play safety, but floating around and taking the 1st/2nd options away from the cpu definitely creates pressure and sacks. I can see this being a huge issue for guys playing on the D-Line.

- Punt & Kick Returns (Way too easy - CPU & Human)

Agreed. No question.

- Penalties (Virtually no penalties)

I've seen penalties online. Usually 1-2 a game. So I cannot say they're not called. On Dynasty, not seeing them as frequent.

- CPU Passing Percentage/Accuracy (High QB completion percentage's, few incompletions, far too accurate).

Again, look no further than my write-ups on playing as anyone on the D-Line. The cpu QB will have high %'s due to not having the 1st/2nd options taken away on a regular basis. No one may like it, but it's a dead fact you must get off the D-Line to enjoy this game on Heisman.

- CPU Deep Ball (CPU rarely goes deep)

I'm not seeing this as much, but I have seen it a few times per game while playing Safety. Needs to be adjusted though I'll go ahead and agree.

- DB Aggressiveness/Awareness (DB's lack in aggressiveness and act incompetent of where the ball carrier is or is headed & don't "attack" the ball carrier).

Always been a problem IMO. The college game has been way too easy for years. This goes hand and hand as to what I've been preaching for many posts now. If you play on the D-Line, the cpu awareness will continually get beat as it's up to YOU, the user to make plays on defense. You cannot win on the D-Line. It's a domino effect.

- Players in Pursuit Aggressiveness/Awareness (Players pursuing the ball carrier slow down or turn the wrong way)

This appears to be downright bad. There are plenty of video highlights to show this being true. Agreed.

- CPU Snapping (CPU Constantly snapping at the same time on the play clock, almost immediately after getting to the line of scrimmage, rarely taking their time snapping).

The need to take more time. Agreed. I would also like to see checkoffs and audibles. Why not?

- CPU Down/Distance Recognition (CPU will go for it on 4th & 5 at the midfield)

Again, the cpu has shown the ability to not be smart, and it's more apparent when watching the cpu QB. The decisions they are making are simply not good intelligent. It's too unpredictable and the game is too easy.

- Player Ratings (Some of the ratings don't matter at all)

Not sure here. If the cpu A.I. made better decisions and the pursuit angles were better, I'd have more of an opinion.
Again, my complaints are basically what I've stated above, but I must add the ability to not be able to configure the controller settings as my #1 complaint above all of these, as it's never been this way before.

I also feel the game is simply way too easy. It appears to be the easiest Heisman difficulty setting I've seen in years, if not ever.

The only way this would be acceptable is if EA was making Pop Warner Football 09.

I mean wow, the defenders don't even look at the ball carrier, they just stare blankly at the sideline while they take pursuit angles which are so bad that they would get even a high school player benched.

Yep, there's no aggressions from defending players. A fundamental of playing defense in football is to be decisive and close attack the ball. Not this paly conservative and try to make a tackle downfield.

I can't wait to see how it messed up Madden.
Wide open gameplay isn't in Madden 09, much less in the NFL...only in NCAA.

Within the next 5-10 days (as of July 16). It's for the rosters though, not gameplay.

I agree with the passing accuracy also every quarterback can recognize every blitz and coverage. even with their back turned to the play then they spin and jump off the wrong foot backwards throwing a strike to the open man across the middle. you rarely see any bad throws
