Back to answering questions. I think I picked up where I left off...
1) Not on 09.
2) This sounds like something the gameplay guys would consider. I'm sure it is on the radar.
3) Yes, but I've learned to laugh about it. Lazy is not a good word to describe us.
4) I used to on Dreamcast. I played a lot of APF 2K8. I have to play a lot of games in my line of work. Fortunately we have a game library here. I can't play at my desk because for some reason, dev kits won't play retail games!
You need to have the rosters match up on both consoles for online to work.
Well, we don't want to make it money like it was back on PS2.
Not sure what you're asking here....
Surely we could, but we'd have to implement it and change the way player heads work. And then you throw on a helmet and obscure it anyway. Seems like a lot of work that could be spent on something more important. We do talk about it every year during brainstorming.
Well, this year you will now have team specific playbooks. Last year I believe it was based on your position.
I don't think losing your position was added, but maybe. Ask Greg on NCAA Strategies.
Freezing?
It is pretty subtle. All it does is make the kick meter a little harder to see, and you feel a heartbeat through the controller rumble. It's a silly little feature, but I like it. I don't know if you could unfreeze him.
I think I answered this for you in the pridesticker thread, right?
I'm not sure how those guys do it! I know disk space is always a factor. The code itself doesn't take up much space. The art, UI, and sound is what takes up space.
Yes, it is split at the 50. However, since the game goes home/away in dynasty mode, and the fans are labeled home/away, every other year they will be sitting on the wrong side in dynasty mode
It is based on region and what conference you are already in. So with UCF, you won't get invited to the PAC 10. And for some reason we have C-USA and Big East as the same conference prestige, so you won't get an invite there. UCF can go to the SEC and ACC.
No, we don't do this.
No. It was still under construction when we did stadiums I believe.
WE have a finite amount of resources to get the game done. I was limited to 50 alternate uniforms and Marshall didn't make the cut this year.
I followed a link to a Marshall message board at the bottom of this thread (where if has sites that link here) and someone guessed it took 2-4 minutes to do an alternate uniform. It takes more time than that just to make the uniform selectable in the database, let alone making a uniform and putting it in game.
Every time you add new characters with logic to the field, it uses up system resources. We added new sidelines and cheerleaders this year. Didn't have the budget for refs and chain gangs.
Colorado has the Green/Gold, White/White, and the alt with the gold jersey/green pants.
I went into game with Colorado State versus Ole Miss to check for the cannon, however I must be off my game today. First play I throw a pick. I super sim defense. First play of this drive... another pick! Super sim defense. Ok... this time I'm gonna score. Nope, first play I throw a pick! Sorry, that's enough for me!
(please note this isn't any indication of the game being broken... they were dumb throws on my part)
Hopefully we got all the teams right. We were going to do the cannon animation but it didn't make it in for 09. It will probably be in 2010.
Up to four players on one team

.
I don't see why it wouldn't be. You're gonna have to practice it though, that isn't a canned move. You gotta learn to shake the sticks just right and stuff. It is pretty neat.
Not on NCAA 09. I've been waiting for the renovations to be complete before changing the game model. I have it top of the list of stuff for 2010 though.
I'll ask the dynasty designer to take a look.
These are engineering questions that I really can't answer. Felix is a longtime engineer on NCAA and will be answering questions when he gets back from vacation. This is a good question for him.
We work very closely with them. We also have a lot of central teams that work on both games. We aren't segregated from the other game teams or nothing. We have lunch with the Madden guys, the NASCAR guys, the Tiger guys. We also brainstorm features together. So just as Madden guys have input into our game, we have input into Madden. We are all crazy football fans here!
We try to share features as much as possible. But even sharing a feature comes at a price. It would be less resources to get the field goal nets from Madden than creating them from scratch, but it is still considerable amount of work that we didn't have time for with the other features we added.
There isn't really a rivalry or anything, and we want both games to be really good. But if you were to do a survey, NCAA is the more popular game to play for the guys on both teams

.
Yeah, you can pump up the crowd like on PS2. But we left the noise meter off.
I think I heard you can move guys around manually. I know initially because of how the data is syched between your console and the servers, we weren't going to do the job offers (you'd have multiple people in dynasty getting the same offers), but I don't know if they found a solution to it or what. Unfortunately I didn't have time to try out online dynasty this year.
Yeah, I believe there is support for this. So you and your roomates can be in the same online dynasty.
1. It is supposed to work like real life, using records and the polls.
2. Yes it is.
3. It is harder, at least to get in the National Championship game. I have gone undefeated with UCF and lost out on BCS championship bids to 1 loss teams.
Hmm.... not sure what you mean.
It's much better I think. The depth chart bug is definitely fixed.

Anyway, I have read through the entire thread and have a few questions. I didn't see these questions asked, but, if I missed the answer, then I apologize in advance.
1. Does the depth chart still get reset every time you edit a player?
2. Did the "Create-A-Recruit" bug get fixed? In '08, if you created a prospect, some ratings didn't map properly. For example, no matter what you set Catch in Traffic as, the player would have a 0 in this. And some other attributes, such as Stamina I think, seemed to be determined by an average of other attributes rather than being set properly in the "Create" screen. Also, several attributes seemed to be simply mapped to wrong attribute.
It seems like someone just made some simple database mapping errors in creating the feature. For a recruiting dork like me, this was annoying as it made creating a recruit an exercise in frustration. At one point, I tried to figure out all the mismappings so that I could still create players, but, quickly figured out there was simply no workaround for some of the errors.
3. Also, in NCAA 08, there seemed to be a limit to the amount of recruits that could be created. This is understandable and fine, but, when you created too many recruits, you wouldn't get an error or anything, the game would just let you continue to make prospects. Then the created prospects after the invisible "cut-off" would just go into limbo and never appear in the recruit pool. Do you have any idea how many recruits can actually be created in NCAA 09 and if any kind of "cut-off" has been put in?
4. Has there ever been any internal discussion about reaching out to the community for support with putting team rosters together? I know you guys do the best that you can do with 100+ teams of 70 players each, but, it seems that roster makeup could still be improved. There are a lot of roster dorks for particular teams (like myself with Alabama) that can tell you every player, their height/weight, number, their projected position for the 2008 season, what recruits are most likely to actually make an impact, what their strengths/weaknesses are, etc.
This isn't really a huge deal since a lot of people that care just use rosters put together after the fact anyway. But, I also know that when the rosters were posted to an Alabama message board that I frequent recently, there was a lot of "EA screwed up the rosters again!" talk. I figure that this goes on everywhere, as most people don't realize the amount of work involved with 100+ NCAA teams and the difficulty in getting quality news about some of them.

1. Yeah, I just tried it and it reset the depth chart.
2. I'm not sure. I don't have time to try this today.
3. Sorry, I don't know how many you can have. I never use this feature cause they never sign with me!
4. There are a lot of discussions going on right now about rosters.
I don't know what the plan is. There has always been complaining. We'll never be able to make everyone happy with the ratings! That's just the nature of sports games.
