WTF Dude?
Progression isn't performance based. Nor should it be. Just because McGuffie had a better season doesn't mean he'll have the better offseason and improve more.

If a player (irl) plays well, that does not mean that he will get better and play even better the next year. If progression was performance basedm then those young players who sit would be horrible when it finally came time for them to play.

Accpomplisments and performance should be a big part of player progression. If they're a 75 ovr and the player is an award-winner or all-american, they should be rated like an all-american and have a nice sized increase more-so than the average player on the team.

I think the question is how should progression be implemented? What are we looking for? If McGuffie has a good year, we would probably expect him to get a nice ratings bump in next year's game. Is that how ratings be based--how a guy be rated in next year's game? Should a 75 OVR who becomes an all american become a 92 next year in a dynasty?

Or should it be random based on how a player hypothetically trains and improves in the offseason? Then bench players and redshirts could improve by watching (which is realistic). Or is it a combination of both, performance and randomness?

Oh. I think there should be some of both. When I say he should be rated like an All-American, I'm not necessarily saying a jump up into the 90's but maybe the highest someone will progress like 7 or 8 pts. That is hard to call though. I do think that someone that puts up ridiculous #'s and wins awards should get more than a minimal gain since they have made a huge jump to a different caliber player with results to show for it.

I really can't say how much someone should progress due to accomplishments but I just know it should be more than a minimal gain like someone else at the same position that didn't play much gets.

It is hard since there should be a more accurate in-season progression that makes the bust-out player better progressively. Then there shouldn't be as big a need for a superman increase during the off-season. OK, I'm catching on. In-season should increase along with accomplishments and perhaps there should be a performance-based chart they go by. Just a thought.

Your saying in real life, but is their an off-season in next gen NCAA? A spring game, mini drills(fall camp)? No, just the season, therefore alot of the progression should be based off that.

Adam,
I need some help here...I am the commish of my online dynasty and I am in the first step of my first off season. When I try and load my online dynasty file it says some files are missing or arent loading. What is the first step of getting this problem fixed?

Re: Adam Thompson (NCAA Designer) Q&A Thread

Adam--any chance the practice portion of the game gets expanded more? I know actually playing the game is a great form of practice but, the practice could do so much for people who want to get better and learn about the game.

I really think this would be valuable for some friends of mine who we've brought into our league. They aren't that good and all the losing kills it for them. But with adequate practicing tools I think it would make all the difference.

I'm not talking anything too crazy, just some added features.

Such as:

1) queue up some defenses to face (1 to however many) that will appear randomly. That way I can practice a certain play against various looks of the cover 2, etc.

2) let me go against some situations....say 1 min on the clock on a certain part of the field. Or working out of my own end zone under heavy pressure, etc. Just situations I 'd see in a game.

3) Let the computer pick the D based off my offensive set, but then tell me either before or after the play what it is so I can learn from it. Something close to the Chris Collinsworth feature that is in Madden 09 would be awesome. I was simply blown away by that feature.

4) I would also like to be able to practice defense and have the same features as above apply toward me.

Of course I'd love the sun and the moon for features, but I'd take anything at this point. I know lots of peeps are lobbying for presentation and entrances, etc. (and that's all good stuff), but I know I speak for myself and everyone in our league who would love an online dynasty that isn't riddled with bugs, and more realistic, solid gameplay that mimics real football.

Thanks for your time.

P.S. For the life of me and the love of all things holy, the announcers announce when someone is running the same play over and over. Why not have the announcer say something like..."that team really needs to be careful as the defense will probably adjust and something bad could happen". That would serve as a warning to the cheeser. Something bad doesn't automatically have to happen, but then maybe the risk of a fumble or interception goes up. I know it's the D's job to stop it, but c'mon...we all see this happen all the time.

Re: Adam Thompson (NCAA Designer) Q&A Thread

One thing I'd like to see improved is the Practice Mode. Somebody else has already echoed this.

It would be very cool if could play inter-squad scrimmages so that we can really practice against a live opponent.

Currently, the system isn't setup to well. You shouldn't have to jump through screens to switch a play (for offense and defense), move the ball, etc. It's not really simulating anything and doesn't help you prepare for the next game.

Re: Adam Thompson (NCAA Designer) Q&A Thread

Why does your game completly suck every year, with no signs of any real intangibles of the game seeming to be on the horizon? Thanks.
