Off/Def Aggression Sliders for Dynasty

I'm still working on the offensive aggression sliders, but the defensive aggression sliders are finished and I like the results I've seen so far.

How I came up with the numbers:

Turnovers forced from last 3 years
Interceptions from last 3 years
Sacks from last 3 years
All of the above for 2007 to weigh last year's numbers more

I didn't use this year's numbers because of the sample size.

These sliders should help get the defensive styles of teams more accurate. You will notice a more passive or aggressive defense when you play games depending on the Def Agr sliders. You will notice higher/lower turnover values in sim games depending on the Def Agr slider.

What effect do they have in gameplay?

Defensive Aggression mainly impacts turnovers, specifically interceptions. The higher the slider, the more interceptions. Of course this doesn't happen every single game, but there is enough of a trend for me to come to that conclusion. CPU/CPU games (played, not simmed) on 7min qtrs averaged around 3.5 INT per game with Def Agr at the default sliders and 1.5 INT per game with Def Agr at 0. You will also see less CB blitzes from the CPU with this setting lower.

Offensive Aggression in gameplay isn't as clear cut, but basically the CPU throws deep posts and go routes more often and appear to go for it on 4th down more often around midfield.

Based on the numbers I provided in this thread, you will see the teams that usually get the most INTs and sacks going after the ball more and sending more blitzes.

Still working on them and haven't had the time to finish. Hopefully they will be up by the weekend.

Re: Off/Def Aggression Sliders for Dynasty

I'm not sure if this is the case, but have you noticed when you've raised the CPU Defensive Aggression to 70+ that they start playing alot more Man to Man defense than normal?

Defensive aggression basically determines the amount of times the CPU will blitz..The higher the aggression the more likely the CPU will play press man to man and blitz..the lower the aggression the more likely the CPU will blitz less and play zone...

Re: Off/Def Aggression Sliders for Dynasty

OK... here's the long story made short....

Offensive Aggression didn't have exactly the effect on sim results that I expected and I've only been able to find a loose correlation with Yards Per Carry and Completion %.

Here's what I've found (this only applies to the sim engine):

1. Lower Offensive Aggression = Lower Yards Per Carry
2. Lower Offensive Aggression = Higher Completion %

So basically I'm not going to recommend values for offensive aggression like I did with the defensive sliders because the sliders would be too dependent on the players instead of school philosophies if I based it on completion percentages and yards per carry.

What I'm going to do for my own personal dynasty is create a formula to set passing teams to have high Offensive Aggression (more deep passes in game, lower completion percentages in sim) and set running teams to have low Offensive Aggression (lower YPC in sim, more running plays in red zone in game). The playbook will ultimately determine what kinds of plays are called so even though a team in the spread offense like Texas Tech may have an Aggression of 100, their playbook mainly consists of short/mid throws and that is mainly what you will see playing against them. Option running teams will still run the option regardless of where the Aggression setting is.

Sorry to disappoint those looking for a more concrete answer, but I'm not going to put sliders out there that don't represent real life. The defensive aggression sliders are working great though and can be used to get real life defensive team tendencies.
