Matt10's Varsity Sliders

Have tested a bit with these. It is tough to find the happy medium with this game. The game is too fast on AA and too exaggerated on Heisman. I was afraid that I would not receive a challenge by playing Varsity, but nothing could be further from the truth. I will admit I do not have great stick skills - so my rushing yards will probably be low, still got some work to do there. I play the game straight, so if you do try these out, I expect you to do the same.

I am still experimenting with homefield advantage being on or off. I think there are enough problems with the gameplay that having this option turned on or off might let players play to their true ratings. I will admit that I will probably turn the setting back on when I start my dynasty.

Till then - here we go.

Please note that CPU offense and defense are void, I had them listed previously before knowing that there was a glitch.

My Personal House Rules
: Do not control running back, receiver (after catch), punt returner or kick returner and lastly, do not control player who has intercepted a ball. The reason I implement these house rules it to maintain a realism of players playing to their rating. It is a hybrid simulation of playing an arcade game made by EA. So basically on offense I control my quarterback, defense my free safety and I do not switch for the player nearest to the ball. Try a couple games this way, you might enjoy it. Please note that I have tested the game without the house rules implemented and the game plays just fine, it's just a matter of what experience you really want.

Re: Matt10's Varsity Sliders

This was a good one. The game was fairly close until the Aggies started to pull away through the running dual-threat of Javorskie Lane and Goodson. There were some pretty nice plays. I was very happy with the sacks - I control the FS, so these were not user controlled sacks, maybe a couple of coverage sacks here and there.

I'm not sure if it is still a concern, but having homefield advantage turned off still had the CPU play with mistakes as Carroll really tried to force the ball and made some bad reads. I will say his wideouts didn't help him out, there was a stint in the 4th quarter in which Smith dropped the ball three times in a row - let it go right through his fingers. Nice touch.

Looking forward to continue playing with these.

Just remember CPU sliders do nothing for offense. It has been tested & verified. Good luck on your search though!

Yeah, was just about to post that regarding cpu sliders too. That's a lot of defense for varsity, interesting

Re: Matt10's Varsity Sliders

Thanks you guys :P good to see ya'all.

Well, I don't think I will mes with my sliders any longer - just had a 4 OT loss to Virginia Tech as UVA. Seriously the most fun I've had in a long time - this is game gets better and better for me. Working on stats right now.

Re: Matt10's Varsity Sliders

Even though I lost this one, it was a blast. 10 seconds left in regulation, Hail Mary-Mid, slot the RB Simpson - he blows by the secondary, heave it up to him, catches and gets down in time for me to call a timeout. Kicker is iced, dunno where the hell the meter went (nice touch EA), ball sails through upright wtih time expiring. From there it was craziness.

Virginia (me) @ #17 Virginia Tech – Battle For the Commonwealth

Virginia 66 Virginia Tech 68 -------- 4/OT

I’m not going to post the stats – because they are pretty crazy as a result of the overtime, wish I had jotted it down before the craziness began.

Here are the final individual stats though, in case anyone was wondering.

(UVA) QB Lalich: 23/34, 441 yds, 4 TD, 2 INT (67%) --- Sacked 3 times
(VT) QB Taylor: 26/39, 269 yds, 6 TD, 1 INT (66%) --- Sacked 1 time

(UVA) RB SImpson: 34 rush, 112 yards, 3 TD, 16-yard long
(UVA) RB Peerman: 10 rush, 103 yards, 2 TD, 58-yard long
(VT) RB Lewis: 30 rush, 129 yards, 3 TD, 53-yard long

(UVA) WR Covington: 7 rec, 133 yds, 2 TD 48-yard long
(UVA) WR Ogletree: 4 rec, 100 yds, TD, 63-yard long
(VT) WR Coles: 7 rec, 93 yds, 24-yard long
(VT) WR Wheeler: 7 rec, 60 yds, 2 TD, 18-yard long

The game finally ended when I couldn't convert the 2-pt conversion in the start of 4OT and then of course Taylor tosses it over to Kenny Lewis who just bruises his way into the endzone. I've got video of the last couple of minutes - so will work on that next just for fun

MT,

I'm using a set of Varsity sliders and had a 6-3 game tonight with 8 minute quarters. I'm also seeing missed FGs at this level!

I was at home as Auburn against Alabama and kicked a FG with 50 seconds left to win the game. I had a pick 6 as Bama tried to rally in the final minute. Bama's QB was 15-35 and Kody Burns was 12-20.

In the second game I played I beat Tennessee in Knoxville with Ole Miss 31-30. FG on the last play of the game. Great QB pass percentages in this game as well. Both QBs were around 63%.

Matt,

Good to see you're still around! The Varsity set I used tonight was the exact same as yours on the offensive side. With the USER BB and TCK that low does the CPU running attack seem fair? With regards to the USER KND are you getting a lot of deflected passes? I thought I remember someone saying once (A year or so ago) that the KND slider affected the number of passes knocked down at the LOS by the DLine.

Now if they would come out with that 2nd patch and fix the Kicking game we may end up with a damn good game.

Riz - nice to see ya buddy.

Those two games you mention sound incredible - who's sliders are you sporting? I haven't had any low scoring games with mine yet, but I feel players have played true to their ratings. I turned off Home Field Advantage, so I'm not sure if that is helping things or not.

The CPU running attack is actually just fine. I go through the depth chart and see who is on the line - and then the rating of the RB. I will probably start recording more of my games played to show that there are really not bogus/unrealistic moves by the AI. Everything is based on playcalling and execution.

As far as the KND slider, I remember it being addressed last year - but I did not apply it to this year's version of the game. I do remember hearing that the KND at the line was applicable to that value, but I am not one who tests the way some of these brilliant minds do - which is probably why I choose not to believe any of the confirmed testings. I think the coding is deeper than what we can actually expose, but that could just be my denial or sense of just wanting to play the damn game

Re: Matt10's Varsity Sliders

I have kept your sliders exactly the same but I upped the CPU accuracy to 50 and put mine at 50 as well.

This in my opinion, after trying like 6 sets of sliders on AA, is the wide open gameplay EA talked about.... I lost a heartbreaker at the Coliseum with the Irish 28-24 to USC and I also lost a tough one to Michigan as well.. Had some very good games with BC and Syracuse and barely won my bowl game vs Clemson. I am talking last second drive.

I have to say good find here and I hope more people try the game on varsity, , keep on playing with the sliders and you will find your happy medium. I play on 6 minute quarters myself, and I see alot of realistic stats like the cpu gets 80-120 yds rushing, usually a couple total INTs between the cpu and i, and most importantly if your timing is good, you can bomb a couple passes out there and the cpu does as well

Good Job
