WARNING: LONG
Overview
We’re just outside of two months away from the release of NCAA ‘10. With that I’ve received several inquires concerning my plans for the upcoming game. I figure I would just create a separate thread to discuss the subject.
As much as this game has many flaws, I must admit the person at EA who decided to implement Online Dynasty should get a HUGE raise. The addiction of the camaraderie among good peeps makes it near impossible for me to turn my back on ‘10. It can’t be any worse than ’09, right? Damn, I’m such a sucker.
I’ll be running a dynasty here again with NCAA ‘10. I’ll get the game on release day but won’t be able to commit to a dynasty until late August/early September. I’m thinking the first weekend in September or first week in September would be our start. I’m hopeful that by then we should have contingency plans in place to combat significant bugs, flaws, etc. There should also be a decent roster available from which to start the dynasty. This will be the only dynasty in which I participate.
Dynasty Rules
The rules for the new dynasty will generally be the same as those for our NCAA ’09 Heisman Sliders Challenge Dynasty with some tweaks. We’ll keep the position changes and position requirement rules for most part. We’ll also keep the recruiting cap to prevent us from over recruiting our rosters in a four year cycle. So if the roster maximum remains 70 per team, we’ll cap ourselves at 18 recruits per season. If EA increases the limit to 80 for example, our cap will be 20 (80 players / 4 years = 20 per year). I think I want to do away with the rule to cap recruits of 4-stars or greater. Generally, I’ve found that this is taken care of by the position changes rules. People usually have to grab some 3-star players when they have to carry a couple TE and FB or make the compromise to put a lineman or linebacker in their place. Rules affecting gameplay and playcalling will be voted on by the group after we’ve had a chance to play the game for a month. An example of this is the Full Back Dive or the QB Sneak play. The advance schedule will stay about the same with us having 3 scheduled weekly during the season.
Dynasty Configuration/Setup
I am considering the following two dynasty configurations at the moment:
Configuration 1 – BCS Conferences
This is what we have now with 2 teams in each of the BCS conferences. If a BCS conference has two divisions, we would have one team in each of the division. Each user would have 3 scheduled user opponents, likely playing 1 in-conference user and 2 out-of-conference user.
Configuration 2 – BCS Super Conferences
This configuration only allows us to pick teams from the 12-team BCS conferences, specifically the ACC, Big 12 and SEC. We would have 2 teams in each division of those conferences. Each user would have 3-4 user opponents on their schedule under this configuration.
But what about moving teams into different conferences?
I figure this question would come up so I want to address it now. I’m not crazy about that idea. I’ll allow some of this but won’t go crazy with it. Any request for this will have to be approved by me. I want to keep recruiting integrity and regional rivalries intact. For example, if we go with Configuration 2 (super BCS), we won’t be moving USC into the SEC just so a user can play with USC. I want to keep the current college football alignment in tact as much as possible. As in real life, we’ll make special arraignments for Notre Dame. Specifically, in configuration 1 (BCS Conferences), Notre Dame is eligible to join the Big East, Big 10 and Big 12. Configuration 2 would only allow Notre Dame to join the Big 12. I realize that in real life there were discussions for Notre Dame to join the ACC a few years ago. I’m not crazy about that idea since it would give them somewhat of an unfair recruiting advantage under Configuration 2 (they would be the only user team in the upper Midwest).
Who Gets In and Team Selection
I’ve created a dynamic list of users I would like to invite back for NCAA ’10 and ranked them based on a priority basis. The top ranked user will have first selection of team in either of the two configurations already outlined above. Some of you might find it surprising that I’m the top ranked user. Guess which team I’m gonna pick? The number 2 ranked user would have the next selection and so forth. The first 12 users on the final list will have voting rights to determine how the league is setup. Users on the list that are outside the top 12 and still interested in joining would move to the top of the waiting list in case someone drops out or is dismissed.
In the user list below, you’ll see a column titled “INTERST.” This column identifies whether the user has expressed an interest in returning. If the value is “Y” then I have recollection of them saying they are interesting in returning for ’10. Please feel free to respond here if your interest value needs to be updated. The following is the list of the users and their ranking:

Logic Behind the User Priority Rankings
As stated when I started the 2009 dynasty, I want to find a core group of guys who are interested in continuing the NCAA legacy for years go come. This is the only game I buy without fail every year (although I’ve usually only played it for a month or two before getting frustrated with its flaws). I want to reward the guys who have stuck it out to the end. If it weren’t for them this dynasty would’ve died. Guys like robbiedizzle, jimuna26, dawkins20, and Sean_C have been here since day one, still remain with us, and still approach the game with the same vigor they did day one. They get the highest priority. The second group comprises the ones who joined partway through the dynasty and remain with us. Basically, the later you hang on the more you are rewarded.
I also place an emphasis on the conduct of people in the dynasty. I don’t want to reward guys who just take up a place and are not active in playing their games or recruiting. I completely understand that things come up in our lives and this is just a video game, so I don’t want to punish you for that. What I expect is for you to be considerate and make us aware you can’t play a game or recruit and don’t have us waiting for you. Communication is big in getting this thing to run smoothly. What this means is if you’re a user that has been here a while or to the end and have a pattern of not communicating then you might be brought down a notch or two. Also be aware that these rankings could change from now until the start of the NCAA ’10 dynasty.
What’s Next?
Feel free to post in this thread with any comments you have and to update your interest value. We’ll revisit this thread as the release of NCAA ’10 approaches and even after. It will be our exclusive thread for discussing NCAA ’10 until we setup an official dynasty thread.
Thanks again gentlemen for making the ’09 dynasty a success.
