Re: PS3 National Heisman Sliders Challenge Dynasty - Official Thread

Hey guys, I can't answer the specific time of the advance until I figure this thing out. I want to do it no later than Wednesday.

I need help on getting control of your teams so I can talk them into staying. I converted the dynasty to an off-line dynasty and tried talking to your players. It tells me the player is not on my active and I need to change my active team to talk to the player. How do I take control of your teams? Do I have to un-invite you guys first? Do I have to retire from the dynasty as well? I don't even see where I can change active teams. I don't want to screw anything up. HELP!!!!!

Here are the instructions I have:

Quote:
Thanks to the great folks from wheats 7 's online dynasty...I made this tutorial on the steps you have to take to do this. I'm the commish in my online dynasty and I sent this out (or WILL send it out) to the players in our league at the end of each season:.......

After we advance past the national championship week everyone will be able to see the players leaving early/transfering...then this will happen...
I save the dynasty as "offline" at this point
Everyone must look at their players leaving and tell me 3 things :

1. What players you want to try to keep
2. How much time to start with on each player (time trying to convince them to stay)
3. Max time on each player (max time you want me to spend on a given player)

Example---using Florida State's roster:
Christian Ponder-SO(rs) 65 minutes (as many times as needed)
Correy Surrency-JR 65 minutes (as many times as needed)
Everette Brown-JR(rs) 65 minutes (as many times as needed)
Myron Rolle JR-65 minutes (as many times as needed)
Preston Parker-JR 65 minutes (as many times as needed)

I will go through and do this for each of your teams. I'll follow what you tell me, but of course, it's basically luck of the draw on who returns to school and who goes pro.

After completing these tasks, I will advance the dynasty past this portion of the off-season tasks, which will advance us to Week 1 of off-season recruiting. Once I do this...I will have to re-send dynasty invites to each of you, just like I did at the beginning of the season, you'll accept the invites, and we'll all be able to proceed to off-season recruiting. Then, we'll proceed as normal from there.

Re: PS3 National Heisman Sliders Challenge Dynasty - Official Thread

Controller, thanks for the info. I'll try that when I get home. Any other suggestions to get it to work?

As for the changing positions, while I trust that everyone will use good discretion, I feel more comfortable with some concrete rules. That way there is no doubt about what is expected. I've something from another poster who has numerous seasons of OD experience. I'll post them in the first post of this thread for future reference. If you have an issue with any of the items let me know. They will be used to manage how we operate from here. I am saving a copy of the dynasty after recruiting ends. If I find you've violated any of the position changes rules you are out, no questions asked:

POSITION CHANGES
IN-SEASON SUB RULES

* Qb - only QB's (if all injured, then a player with 90 or less speed)
* HB - only HB's and FB's
* FB -only FB, HB, and TE
* TE - only TE, FB and HB
* WR -only WR
* OL - any online
* DLINE -any Dline
* LB - only LB
* DB's -any DB

- You can use your formation package subs all you want.

OFF-SEASON POSITION CHANGES
* QB- any Player that has above either of 70 thp or tha
* HB- any FB or WR (the wr's wont matter because they fumble alot, tradeoff unless you have weak *** sliders)
* FB- TE, HB or LB. no 90 or more speed
* WR - HB, FB, TE, DB, QB (WR must be at least 6'3" and 230 pounds)
* TE - LB, FB, HB, DE, OT, DT (if HB, speed needs to be less than 90 and weight over 210 pounds)
* DE - LB, TE or DT (no 90 or more speed).
* LB - DE, S, TE, FB, HB
* CB - WR, HB, FB, TE, QB, S
* S - CB, HB, WR, TE, FB, LB

If you recruit a guy and he is over 90 speed at TE, DE or FB its ok but he has to be legit.

RECRUITING
Once this recruiting period is over, I would like recruiting to be limited to either a certain number or the number of players leaving for your program. No bringing in 25 players when you only have 15 slots available. I don't want it so we have to cut players because over recruiting really keeps talent away from the cpu. The AI is weak enough at recruiting. If someone goes over the limit they'll be on probation the first time. A second violation would mean banishment. This would all start next season.

Thoughts?

dc, good point. this is the biggest thing i was thinking about because people have been talking about how the user teams become juggernauts while the cpu teams all begin to suck. we should only be recruiting what we need. if we all start taking 20-25 players a year then this will end up happening.. it won't be any fun.

yea, I'm thinkin we should cap the number of recruits. 18 on the lower end of the cap and 20 on the higher end. Don't know which number to use. if u violate the cap u are put on probatation, which puts ur cap at 15 for the next 2 seasons. Violate that and ur gone.

i think it should go by your team needs. why do you need 15-20 players if you only have 8 positions to fill. those 7-12 players could be at other cpu schools.

Re: PS3 National Heisman Sliders Challenge Dynasty - Official Thread

Abuser, I see your point. Both methods have their own strong points. Doing it by team needs does a better job of tackling the issue head on. However, here are a couple issues I have with doing it by team needs:

1. It becomes way too restrictive while in the process of recruiting for a particular year. For instance, going into the season you know you have 8 seniors so you only recruit 8 players. Then you get to the off-season and suddenly find out you have 4 players leave early or transfer during the off-season. All of a sudden your team needs suddenly change and you have to scramble for the scraps that are left in the off-season.

2. Let’s say, for example, we have an 18 scholarship limit. Multiply 18 by 4 years and you have 72. This should take care of your team needs over a course of 4 years. You are therefore recruiting to fill your “team needs” over a four year period instead of “year to year.”

3. As the person who has to stay on top of this stuff, this third point is the most near to me. It is harder to manage from the standpoint of the commissioner. With team needs, every team is going to have a different number of seniors from year to year. I don’t want to have to check and record this for each team every season. The needs number then changes for each team during the off-season when players leave and transfer. It’s easier to just say everyone has an 18-scholarship limit or a 20-scholarship limit.

So yes, doing it by team needs does a better job of insuring your team doesn’t get stockpiled with talent. At the same time, it could make it way too restrictive. Giving everyone the same cap not only streamlines the process, but it also takes care of your team needs over time and seems to be a good compromise. You also know you can only fill 18 spots regardless of how many players leave early. It still leaves an extra 7 players per team for the cpu. The more I think about it the more I like a scholarship limit of 18.

Are you attempting to say we cant try to make our teams better? Assume i had a safety who is a 96 and 2 backups who are 71 and 72. Are you saying i cant go after the #1 rated safety since i dont "need" him?
