NYK 10: The Crossover

I figured I'd get a Knicks thread going where NY fans can discuss the team.

Couple thoughts going forward.
This is a tweener year we all know, crossing over from one stage to the next.
Finally at the end of the year, we have the ever elusive cap space.

I think this year though, we CAN win 40 games.
Though, I think we just win 38.

Hoping Gallo comes along, as we all do obviously.

My bold prediction: nate grows up somewhat and makes it hard for the Knicks to let him go after this year.

- will JJ be the man he was brought here to be?

- will eddy curry do ANYTHING?

- will the Knicks do enough to make Lebron go....hmmmmm?

Season kicks off soon.

I'm still bitter about the fact that we didn't get Steph Curry or Brandon Jennings especially without a first rounder in 2010 but oh well, gotta move on.

I'm excited to watch Chandler, hope he has a breakout season, and Gallinari, who looked pretty good against the Celtics last night. Health and durability are the biggies for Danillo.

Still have too many gunners and scrubs on the team though, Larry Hughes and Al Harrington are brutal to watch. I hope Eddy Curry can do something for his own sake, I feel bad for the guy at this point because his life (on and off the court) is such a disaster right now.

I don't expect much out of the rookies. Duhon, Nate and Lee should all be solid again though I don't think either of the latter is back in 2010-2011.

I think 40 wins is a stretch, but depending on how some of the younger guys develop we may have an outside shot at it. I just don't want us to be shipping a Top 10 pick out to Utah so hopefully we can sneak into the playoffs as the 8th seed or barely miss out.

Obviously this is the last season before the off-season everyone has been talking about for three years. It will be interesting to see if Donnie makes any big moves during the season. Hopefully Curry can play well enough that we can ship him to a contender near the deadline but that's some extreme wishful thinking.

I'm salty too that we didn't get either of those guards. I feel like both would be immediate contributers, although I'd like to have Jennings first, I feel his style of play would fit perfectly in D'Antoni's system.

I hate Hughes too. Harrington's also a big time chucker, but he seems to have more big game potential than any of the other Knicks. He's probably our best offensive player (next to Nate). Too bad he thinks the same.

Jeffries seems to have worked on his 3 pt shot as he's taking and making more. Although still pretty inconsistent. Hopefully we'll be able to trade him and/or Curry. Not sure exactly how Curry will fit into the mix, he doesn't seem like a good fit for D'Antoni's system.

This reminds me of the Channing draft/Lee/Nate draft, where the late rounder becomes the gold. JJ is a key this year. some NYK fans are sleepwalking on him.

What's so great about Jeffries though? I've watched him nearly his entire career (Wizards games here) and he never really impressed me. He's a decent defender and long, but he's not very quick or athletic and can hardly shoot at all. He just seems like a utility guy.

I agree, he didn't even impress me all that much at Indiana when he led them to the NCAA Finals.

He's lanky and can be bothersome defender against some players but he can't even come close to doing a decent job against the stars of the league (not strong enough or athletic enough). On the offensive end he's basically a lost cause, hustle/garbage guy. I cringe at the though of him shooting threes in the regular season.

I watched the Knicks-Nets preseason game last night. It looks like we may have a problem closing opponents out again. We blew an 18 point lead in the third quarter and ended up trailing going into the 4th. Part of that problem has to do with the shot selection, because jacking 20 footers just isn't smart when you're up that much.

Gallinari is a very good shooter, but has terrible shot selection. Too many times have I seen him face his man up in the corner and instead of looking to create a shot, just try to flat out shoot over the guy.

Toney Douglas is going to be good. Unfortunately, he's another scoring undersized guard. He's got a PGs body but plays like a SG. He could very well be the best perimeter defender on the team, though. Dude's tenacious on D. He too, has bad shot selection and held the ball for waaay too long. I think I watched him by himself dribble the entire shot clock down three times, before hoisting a shot at the end (which he happened to make last night). He seems to lack true PG skills like court vision and passing ability.

Larry Hughes still sucks. I think he's like 1-23 shooting this preseason. Something like that. Awful shot selection.

As far as putting people away, man i am used to it. Dont make it any easier to watch, but yea, its on me like a scar. Maybe only lebron can heal it. Or Bosh.
