NBA Live>I Figured Out How To Limit The Bail Out Calls

The key, just as it is when you are playing some fool on the pick up court and all levels of basketball, is position defense.
When you are guarding on ball, shade the ballhandler to his ball-hand..more then likely he's going to go in that direction.
You know those moments, when your Y button press doesnt feel as response as you think it should? It's because you are out of position.
when you are aligned with the ball-hand, your contest will be fluid, and you'll be able to contest without fouling.
If he drives in the direction you are playing, You do not always have to press Y or go for the steal. Stay your ground and the ballhandler will throw up slop.
Just like in real life, you have to anticipate the change of direction.. and the pull up J. If you are late, your chances of getting whistled, will sky rocket.
The game doesnt seem to be very forgiving when it comes to this.
Also, know your defender, If you are using someone slow footed on the perimeter, give a little more ground then you normally would.
Know who you are defending. If you are up against Gerald Wallace. Back way off of him. If he shoots..you have a near 70% chance of him bricking.
If you are up against the "great" Derek Fisher? Roll right up on him. Its okay. He aint scoring inside, and he isnt making crowded jumpers.
Know where your big men are. Got a shot blocker behind you? play the ball handler and lead him to the shot block.
You are still going to whistled from time to time..that's basketball...and guys will still make shots..thats okay..just stay disciplined, play basketball, and dont get frustrated.
I hope this helps those who have been having a hard time with this.

Thanks for the tips! I'm getting close to actually winning a game on All-star and these strategies should help push me over top. :-)[Reply]

yes this is a good tip : now i can get as much steals as the cpu when a player tries to drive just by beeing in front of his ball hand.
Thanks !

You'll also force some ballhandler's into stumbling and giving up the ball.
When you are in the right position, you will also see your defender go into the Shane Battier hand in the face contest animation on his own.
You can do this your self by tapping the y button also.

I agree With the OP. It took me awhile to learn and be patient in this game. Your opportunities and fastbreaks will come to you. Defensive positioning is key & force the CPU to use alot of the shotclock. I also like to manually double team the star players by sometimes controlling an off ball defender. Soon as he touches it I'm on him. Last nite, lakers(me) vs mavs, I did this and force Dirk to 10-30 fg, plus I went to the charity stripe 17-24 to their 15-18 and they were the home team! This is all done on all star mind you...

The tap Y shot contest works really well too as long as you don't do it when they have a live dribble available (there's a little delay between the animation and being able to move again so they can burn you if you time it wrong and they haven't picked up the dribble)... seems to cut the percentages way down on jumpers.
Thanks for the tips. Still gotta step up my offensive game more than anything... damn releases messing me up bad.

Yeah, its not reasonable to play 100% on ball of the time, because sometimes the CPU just passes and shoots too fast..so there are times when I really key in on the best player on the floor, and try to take him out of the offense.

I've noticed this a few times using your tips and I can get blocks by just staying in front of the player.

There will always be bail outs. The worst are inside. I'm scared to see the patch ( on ps3 )with "upgraded foul calls." I'm gonna have to start flopping. People come in all out of control and I'm just standing there and I still get 2 or 3 fouls a game. I know that's really, really low but when you have tried to get defense down to a science it's frustrating.

It's really not that bad. You will have to learn how to re-learn the game but in a good way. You'll have to start playing good defense on the ground(stop jumping at every shot) & good defensive positioning away from the ball...
