Live Strategy

I realize I'm kind of late to the party on this game. Still enjoying it somewhat but to be honest i'm struggling in certain areas. Any more moves would be appreciated or tips on control. I still cant seem to get the timing and flow down on a lot of this stuff and im kind of sick of throwing up some god awful looking shots. I seem to be sticking to the offensive player a lot which i hate and getting caught in animations that i dont like backing down etc on offense and i'm wondering if there are ways to avoid these things from happening. Are these animations canned and you cant correct them or are there ways to stop this from happening so much?

Anyways I never thought I'd say those two words in the same sentence Live+Strategy but just wondering how people are strategizing on defense etc... I'm sure as a play more tis stuff will come more easy. I thought Live was supposed to be more pick up and play this year and it is, but the timing is hard to get down with certain dribble moves, and especially when defending the post, attempting to contest shots and steal the ball. I keep reading how people are having fun playing defense in this game and its easy to string together moves but I'm wondering what you are doing that I'm not. I've also seen some really cool vids of moves that people are pulling off and I want to do some of that stuff.

Been playing 2k9 to death and mastered that game to death also. This game is definately a change of pace and I usually dont struggle in sports games, but this one I am for some reason. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. It's definately posing a challenge on superstar that is for sure. Some of the animations and the way they are implemented and restrictive is really taking away from this game at this point. I feel like im stuck to guys like glue sometimes and cant break out of that animation. The party may be over? I'm usually the last person to blame the AI and I like a challenge, but starting to get slightly annoyed with this game.

Re: Live Strategy

I seem to be getting stuck to the defender and also when defending. I tried laying off the lockdown button and pplaying off the cpu and stuff, but it's like there is a canned animation where if you get close to another player it will stick to him and go into a backdown. I dont know if there is any way to counter this or if its just broken. It's weird because when i first got this game it seemed really free form for the most part but now im sticking to everyone and can't do anything.

Re: Live Strategy

Are you talking in the post or on the perimeter? I know there is a shading animation that you go into but holding both sticks away from the ballhandler will eventually take you off of him.

You can engage and disengage at will when he's dribbling as well

Re: Live Strategy

Maybe its because im on superstar i dont know. But its really hard to disengage once you go into that animation. It feels like glue and like you have to rip yourself away from the opposing player. If I go nuts on the sticks i have more success but im also not able to control things well that way. Some of the animations are just very slow and it seems like you really have to time everything.

Re: Live Strategy

Some of it is timing, but what are you speaking of, perimeter or post defense?

I can engage and back off whenever I want to on the perimeter. I can even push the ball handler back off of his spot too if his back is turned to me most of hte time.

The only think I can think that you might be talking about is when the man is driving to the basket and you're locked on.

Re: Live Strategy

I know what animation you are talking about and i dont like that one either. It's similar to the one 2k has but worse. But the one i was talking about was the backdown one. Whenever you get close to an offensive player it is like you become one with that player and you lose control. You engage that player like you are saying. Its just really hard to disengage and engage and I dont like it. You have no control when you are in that state except jumping and stealing. On offense there is no way to face up it seems when you are in that state. In 2k when you are backing down you push the left stick towards the defender and you will face up. In live it seems like you cant.

It happens way too often and around the perimeter. Between the "get by" animation where you stick to the guy and the backdown thing i feel like im wading through glue in this game. Plus there is that animation where you back up, and get backcourt violations because yoru player will go into an animation to create space.

I really wanted to love this game so much this year, because I love the look of the game and the presentation and the sound and atmosphere. But this stuff is killing the game for me really fast. The gameplay in this game is really subpar.

Re: Live Strategy

No 2k doesn't have that engage disengage animation from my memory

.. and if you're speaking on post defense, you can back off the post guy but let me play a game to post the right info first

I dont always stay in the post up position to play D or avoid it altogether. Ill let you know tonight
