NBA Fastbreak on the PS1 (made by the original 2K devs I believe) had an inbound alley-oop play

Re: Ask the devs a question

Hey beluba, iminurbase, or stephensonmc What options do we have for the draft? Can we edit the rookies? And if yes, what can we edit (ratings, appearance, accesories, Names, Country, Age, DNA)? Is there a combine thing or do we just do Academy? I think if Live has a feature to edit rookies it blows 2ks combine thing (which is $$$) out of the water. Plus we need to edit rookies because they all look like complete idiots and I like to make players like a 6'9 PG, a fat slow strong PG, quick 5'6 PG, and a 7'1 shooting small foward.

didn't one of the more recent games have that as well? You could take control of the player on the court, run towards the basket and press triangle and the cpu would lob it to the cutter who would try to dunk it (but it rarely was successful). Maybe i'm just imagining it because i can't remember which game it is....

I know what game you are talking about. It is hard to execute but it is possible. It would be nice to have that play in nba live for when there are a couple of seconds left on the shot clock. In live 09 it is impossible to get off a shot with a second or two on the shot clock.

Beluba How has it been using all the technologies EA have to develop NBA Live and does all this technology help with the ideas and concepts you stated you've have had for years work for what you have wanted to do ?

The tech definitely makes implementing certain ideas much easier... and at the same time, it often helps spawn new ideas. So it goes both ways. But yeah, it's been a great luxury having access to all the shared technology and central team resources here at EA.

Have all my ideas been realized yet? Nope. There are still A LOT of things I want to do with this game. But having said that, Live is coming together quite well and I'm happy with how far we've come over the last year.

Great to hear especially about it feeding new ideas. I don't expect all your concepts to be done in 1 big hit going by what you said in early interviews there were a lot.

Is working for EA Sports a place you can see yourself working longterm/permanently or you don't look that far ahead and enjoy what you are doing in the now and immediate future?

Beluba,

If say there's a scale of grand ideas and big ideas. Do any of them require a more powerful engine with more realistic physics properties? Where do you see basketball games in 2-3 years with next gen consoles ?

Will natal work with basketball games?

EA's a great place to work and I could see myself here for a long time. And yeah, I'd like to stay put in one place for a while... seems like I relocate every 4 years, which is getting tiring.

But yeah, I always try to enjoy what I have at the moment and not worry about the future. We could all be gone tomorrow, you never know.
