are these to sliders basically the same thing. Is a player more effective at these when they have a high dribble rating.

Kind of confused here.

Drop step is when a post player is able to spin off a defender in the low post and turn to face the basket in a face up position able to dunk or lay it up after completing the move. Usually skilled big men like Olajuwon or Ewing with great foot work could master this move. Today most highly skilled PF's use the move but not to the degree that these guy's use to back in the day. Low post footwork is a lost art in the NBA now but it is a very good weapon if you can master it.

I guess the easiest way to describe it would be your back towards the defender....if you feel him on one shoulder you can pump fake and then drop step to the opposite direction.

Pro Hop is usually done when a guy gets into the lane like Kobe for instance picks up his dribble then takes an extra bounce or hop to create seperation. This is a powerful offensive move that many wing players use once they attack the rim they can either shoot or dish off from this posistion.

Oh and dribbling has minimum effect on these moves since Drop usually requires only one dribble to complete the move and Pro Hop is perfomed after you pick up your dribble.

Very good explaination and breakdown bro I really like the reference to the old school players excellent examples choosing those two legends in the post and big man game...you seem to know something about how the game use to be played back in the day when giants not only ruled the post but dominated as Shaq and Kobe do today, both using form and techique implimented pretty well if those sliders are set right for the result.
