NBA 2k13: Orlando Magic - The Association

So who else will be using the Magic in their upcoming 2k13 association?

Initially I was going to use the Bobcats, but since this trade, it will be much more challenging & interesting.
  • The Magic don't really have any player to build around at the moment. They have some key contributors but none that are currently all-star worthy.
  • Their best player at the moment is probably Jameer Nelson.
  • They can't really rebuild through free agency as they still have some bad contracts for the next few years: Hedo 33 ($23.8 mil/2 years), Jameer 30 ($25.8 mil/3 years), Al Harrington 32 ($21.4 mil/3 years), Quentin Richardson 32 ($5.4 mil/2 years), Arron Afflalo 27 ($38 mil/5 years) & Big Baby 26 (25.7 mil/4 years); Although I believe Afflalo & Big Baby will both have breakout years.
  • They received plenty of future draft picks but all are NON-LOTTERY BOUND picks. The challenge is to actually get these picks to reflect in the Association without affecting the roster as I am 99% sure the Lakers, 76ers & Nuggets will still keep their future picks when we begin our Associations.

So in a nut shell, the only way to rebuild the Magic in 2k13 is to suck during the '12-13 season and get a lottery pick, develop Vucevic, Nicholson & Harkless and hope they turn out to become studs (ala Marc Gasol trade), further improve Afflalo & Big Baby (or possibly use them as trading chips).

And of course, if the trade logic is still not fixed, then trade Hedo, Jameer, Al Harrington & Quentin Richardson for some all-star/superstar calibre talent and more draft picks

It will be pretty challenging to rebuild the Magic... Definitely I just found my team for next year 'long association'.

Cheers! ;-)

Yep for sure.

I sort of already have a blue print for what I plan to do:
  • I'm going to keep Moe Harkless and try turn him into a defensive minded/high motor type of player (Trevor Ariza/Shane Battier)
  • Keep Andrew Nicholson. I want to keep Afflalo as well but his contract and his age (27, although still relatively young) is kind of making me want to trade him.
  • Try to trade Jameer, Hedo (probably impossible), Big Baby & Al Harrington for some decent draft picks, potential rookies or young talent with big potential but have never really turned it around (such as Anthony Randolph, Derrick Williams, etc.)

Overall, I just hope I can make it through the first season without being frustrated with all the losses. Going to try Pro/Sim settings, as those were the same settings I used on 2k12 (I had a good chance of winning with strong teams & a less of a chance to win with poor teams)

Excuse me sir, but obviously you are not aware that we have traded for Gustavo Ayon.

In all seriousness, I always use the Magic anyway, but this will be different from 2k9, 10 & 11 - a different challenge for sure.
