Things we hope 2k has been working on for greatest mode/classic teams for 2k13

Four things... major areas... jump out at me:

1) Classic Arenas. To capture the feel of the past... the venue must look and sound EXACTLY as it did in that point in time. Not just the court not having the center logo cut up... I'm talking about rafters, stands, seating.

2) Presentation... make it work outside of classic mode. Once we unlock the teams... enable/configure the game to know when we are playing in a classic venue/retro team's home... we have the greyish filter. Make the arena sounds and organs in greatest mode available in those arenas in other game modes.

3) More Player Behaviors... not just signature... what I call for is Behavior. You have signatures for dunks, shots, layups... what about some individual flair and original personality for signatures. This will truly differentiate players... this is the point of signatures. The worm Dennis Rodman has to have hustle moves... diving out of bounds, tipping ball to himself. Magic Johnson's arsenal of flashy passes (he needs his own set of flashy signature passes: no look, bounce, full court, behind the back), MJ's post game (guards post up 2k developers), Bill Lambeer being an intimidator (ok maybe not out right pushing and bumping but at least make animations where he stares at players or walks into their faces... Rodman too) Gary Payton initiating the offense with his back to the opposing PG (like he's posting up). Make Jordan and Stockton direct traffic/pointing players to move around with their free arm while they dribble... would be tight. Make MJ's ball fake... you know what i mean by that! Mutumbo shaking his finger after a block (Come on its in the intro video!!!) BTW While on the subject of blocks, the animation of shot blocking needs to be redone, has to look smoother as well as allowing for players to average more than 2 blocks per game in simulation.... max should be round 4.

4) Team style of play. Make the Lakers run SHOWTIME: up tempo fast breaks... Stockton and Malone PICK N Roll you to death w/out mercy! Make the 90s Pistons and 90s Knicks foul so that you can't dunk (ok the NBA doesn't want your game to have hard fouls, but make sure its their goal to make opponents shoot free throws) Make the Seattle Sonics an aggressive full court trapping defense. Defenses have to be out to double team and get the ball out of these great players hands!!!


I know nobody's perfect and there's a limitation to what you can do from year to year for games... but these are reasonable expectations... hope your consider them as well as any ideas me and fellow 2k fans are asking for. Thanks 2k

I really like these ideas. 2k should finally give players signatures passes.... they give signatures for everything else. Lakers should play like the showtime lakers, Pistons and Knicks should have some sort of Bully's mentality when you play against them! Also its bout time 2k did some sort of full court trapping pressure like they do in college basketball. That and I'd like some more Stockton pick and rolling, Gary frowning with his Kobe esque snarl backing down the point guard to run that Sonics O. I'd like to play in the Garden and have something else playing at MSG besides that goofy sound made when a player scores. Bring on the organ! Make me feel like I'm at Boston Garden... you guys did the Forum well for the Lakers... gotta give the Bird's Celtics a proper home. And I want to make a quickgame still feel like the old days... sucks I can't pick the 93 Bulls and 94 Knicks to play each other... and they can't have old school presentation like in greatest mode.... old school starting lineups... fonts.. grey screen filter.

All I can say is that they sound good and I like the one about player individuality.

But as for that 2k can hardly add in custom shoes for each player, they just slap generics on most of 'em. So imagine what would happen for specialties for certain players..

I just hope they give us the ability to play with the classic teams with/against our friends online. Classic teams should be available in private team matches & also in public team-up matches every once in awhile like there was in 2k11.

Already in the game. Just pay close attention. They just don't allow us to pick the packages but the signature passes are in the game.

Honestly, most of the gameplay issues with classic teams are a result of bad ratings/tendencies. The roster maker can give a higher volume of hard fouls to Det and NY. But he doesn't.

I like all these ideas, but I find it hard for 2K to implement all the things you suggested. Not much time to do so, considering there are many other things 2k needs to adjust.
In this year`s edition, 2k should concentrate on polishing the game and getting it rid of the issues 2k12 has. Plus, add more classic teams, he, he.

All good ideas, but I was just thinking about this the other day. How does Dikembe Mutombo not have his finger wave after it makes an appearance in the intro?

From what I've gathered over the years, games assigning specifically branded shoes to players can be a tricky situation. It seems a player must be under a current shoe contract for 2K to get the go-ahead to provide anything but generics by default. Since classic teams feature mostly retired ball players, it probably made the best legal sense to give them all generics (with the exception of Jordan, who wears Jordan).
