NBA 2K12 your rating review 1-10

Now that its almost time for the 2K13 marketing season to begin i think it would be cool to get everyones review of the game in general. Just select your score on a 1 - 10 scale and you can elaborate if you want

I give it a 6. I mean i want to love this game but I just can't. All the real life basketball aspect just aren't present or just strait up tarnished in this game. And it's not like these are new issues, they've been haunting the game for years. Whether its passing, rebounding, pick and roll/pop, dribbling, Finishing, speed, etc. I could right a 5 page essay and probably would have more problems left over.

That and the fact that most of the modes got no, or little improvement from 2K11 just amplifies it. hell some people might argue that 2K11 was a better game. Non the less this is a fun game and i usually want to come back thinking "comon its basketball, it could be fun" but usually quit from frustration after a few games.

a 6 is what I give, a 6 it will receive

i voted 6 also due to so many problems actually making it out of QA before game released like ice skating defense. Post moves are the only think i think improved gameplay wise from 2k11. SHooting, defense, gameplay options, etc etc are not that great. I just dont have fun with this game and lately been playing 2k11 online just so i dont have to deal with alot of the things i see in 2k12. dribbling i another issue thats so herky jerky in 2k12 but was smooth in 2k11. Its like the games were build from 2 different models but 2k12 seems unfinished to me .

Re: NBA 2K12 your rating review 1-10

I give it an 8.

Sure, there are things that really annoy me, like CPU making a ridiculously high percentage of contested shots as the shot clock is expiring and the up-and-under moves (although non-2K rosters do address that issue).

But, there's a lot here that I really like.

Playbooks are deeper and the plays are better executed than 2K11.

Post game is amazing. Very, very deep.

Smoother layup/dunk animations. I like that you can start driving to the hoop from further out than you could in 2K11; in that game you had to be very close to the basket to attempt a layup.

Defense. In 2K11, there was too much bumping and it made it easy to cut off the CPU when they tried to drive to the hoop. In 2K12, you have to play angles and use your footwork to stop the guy in front of you. I like the additions to the coaching options (hedges on screens being one), as you can really craft a good defensive strategy for each individual player.

Greatest Mode. Get a roster that has the generic guys edited to the real players and the mode truly shines. I love the era-specific presentation and the commentary that gives some great history lessons to younger fans of the sport. Tripling the number of classic teams from 2K11 was a move that, as a kid that grew up idolizing Magic Johnson, I really appreciated.

NBA Today. The mode has been outstanding the past 2 months. Kudos to 2K for being able to change the schedule to the lockout-shortened 66-game schedule, and now the Playoffs are well represented by the mode.

I was sour on this game for a while and although I still lose a lot more than I win, I have found myself just really enjoying the complete package of NBA 2K12. I think it's a solid effort by 2K. They may have taken on a bit too much and some things from previous games were altered (double teams), but all in all, I don't think you could classify this as a bad game.

The playbook was something that I really hated this year. Or maybe it's the execution of the plays. They just don't flow and and run. As quite l as they should. it's like plays are broken into little sections.

Re: NBA 2K12 your rating review 1-10

I'd give it a 7. The offense is a vast improvement over 2k11, its the defensive aspect that suffers.

1. The AI teammate's behavior of abandoning his man and leaving open a shooter even though the defensive setting is "man-to-man"

2. Passes are too easy to disrupt. Now I know you don't pass smack into a wall of defenders in real life but there should be a percentage of the ball getting intercepted since its a moving object.

3. Speaking of intercepted passes, its also easy to disrupt an alley-oop. There should be a computation of the percentage of the passer's passing rating and the receiver's vertical rating vs. the interceptor's vertical rating+height because an alley-oop is an overhead pass and the only way you can disrupt it is if you're 1)tall enough and 2)jump high enough. Guys like Steve Blake should not be able to disrupt alley-oops .

Re: NBA 2K12 your rating review 1-10

I'm by no means a game company slap -- I hated NCAA Football 12, all Madden next-gen titles pre-2010, and pretty much every MLB 2k title -- but I voted this game a 9 -- post-patch and with slider adjustments which corrected the biggest issue of too many passes being deflected or picked off.

Looks fantastic, plays a good game, keeps me coming back. What more could I ask for?

thanks for reminding me of another issue. Alleoops over multiple defenders without contact. In 2k11 if defenders were in the way of the reciever when attempting to catch the alleyop, a contact animation would follow causing the pass to be a turnover. Seems for 2k12 , 2k decided to make tipping the ball the only way to disrupt bad alley opp passes. The contact needs to return so people arent throwing alleys over a 2-3 zone while defenders "slide" out of recievers way

you cant give a game a 10 for only one thing working out of the total package. ONLine overall keeps the grade low

Game deserves a 8-9 with Da_Czar's slider settings. What keeps it from a 10 is the contact in the paint... the CPU can engage contact easily against me, but I have a hard time.

Da_Czar's sliders
Simulation gamestyle
Midrange 47
3 Point 47
Layup 46
Dunk in Traffic 42

Best used on All Star
