Icon6 Defensive Help Thread: NBA 2K10

There have been SO MANY defensive threads made in the last few weeks. Lets just use this one thread (like we had in 2K8) as the all-purpose defensive help thread.

For starters:

1. Turn your defensive help assistance slider down in your controller settings.

2. Born and I were talking about this. Both of us believe that constantly switching defenders against the CPU is what brings out the ugly defensive flaws in this game. He brought up the idea that the CPU doesn't make those boneheaded off ball defensive decisions against another CPU controlled player, so essentially controlling one player PER defensive possession might remedy many of the issues users are seeing with 2K on the defensive end.

Don't feel the need to ALWAYS play on-ball defense against the CPU. If you are playing a human, yes. But against the CPU, no don't do it.

3. Don't go for every steal and/or block. This puts you out of position. Basketball 101

Feel free to add........

Because it gives another human incentive to play you. Nobody signs online to play the CPU. So don't allow the CPU to guard me. Nothing beats playing a human

Make coaching adjustments during the game. Increase pressure, decrease help, mix up your defense, etc.

I pay attention to matchups. If a guy is raining 3's on you switch to play tight on him while decreasing help d. And if one player in particular is hurting you it may be best to manually guard him off the ball.

But playing online wouldn't you rather have a Human weakside defender who actually knows when to help????? That to me seems to be the issue with 2k games not on the ball defense by the CPU.

My tip is to set players defensive matchups! Sag Off non shooters, play tight against perimeter shooters and deny ball good post players.

Set double team to never for most role players.

2) Formation Subs
3) Chew Clock option for the CPU "On Always"

One thing ive noticed is that Zone Defenses are very effective for short spurts.. once the CPU recognizes ths, they wil kill you with the three ball, so constant mixing up on defense is necessary.

Zone defense ths year imo is good, unlike the previous games..

90% of the time, i use SF on defense. They are very versatile. they can come out on the perimeter and contest shots and also help out on the boards.

Not everyone is the same. I rather control my fastest player on defense, the PG, or my center depending on how the game is going. And this is whether it be on or off ball.

I agree and I usually play on ball D all game..but in 2k10, the cpu defense is so terrible as far as guarding cpu players..You gotta switch off alot.

Re: Defensive Help Thread: NBA 2K10

Why does everyone think raising help defense strength makes the game better? I see too much helping when this happens. Matter of fact, I lower mine to 25 bc of all the damn switching and men leaving their assignments, and I see NO DOUBLE TEAMS.
