Does Lack of a Headset / Mic Significantly Hurt Online Matches?

Hi all,

The last time I played NBA 2k online was back in the Dreamcast 2k1 days. So please forgive me if this sounds like a silly question, but I'm new to the whole Next-Gen-Online world, and 2k10 will be my first stab at it.

How many of you actually use the headset during online matches? Do any of you go without it? My Xbox didn't come with one, and I'm short on cash. Plus I'm not the kind of guy who trash talks.

Will I be missing out on a huge part of the experience, or do guys not really talk that much? I'm from the old school of online gaming (before voice over tech).

Thanks guys, these forums are great!

Personally, I don't think so. I have a headset and only use it when I'm playing against people I know. Most of the time you don't really want to hear what the randoms have to say anyway, believe me.

Headsets during team up only, communication for team up is a must have so thats really the only time I use it in 2k games.

Likewise, I only use a headset when I know the person. You should use it for Team-up, but don't necessarily need it if you're a team-player.

If you play in leagues with rules, you should use it, but messaging works fine.

Re: Does Lack of a Headset / Mic Significantly Hurt Online Matches?

The lack of a headset actually significantly improves 1 on 1 online matches against randoms. I gave up after the first 5 random's i played thought they should rap (badly) the whole game, scream rasict and homphobic statements and drop F and C bombs every 5 seconds. Either online plays brings out the worst in people or most online gamers are complete and utter peices of **** from the sample size i have seen.

It's good for playing against friends though.

Re: Does Lack of a Headset / Mic Significantly Hurt Online Matches?

I used to trash talk back in the Live days, I was never the instigator though... that was fun...

In 2k7 though I can specifically remember this older sounding guy who took the game waayyyy too serious getting all pissed. It was a ranked quick, so I was cheesing as are all the people I'm playing. This guys just getting pissed at everything that's not real. YEAH YOULL SEE THAT MOVE AT THE GYM!!! Sarcastically he would say in an angry voice.

Then the negative feedback at the end, fun times.
