Honestly Folks, How Much Is This A Upgrade over 2k8?

I'll be trading in a game or 2 soon (MADDEN), and I didnt buy 2k this year, because everything I saw in gameplay vids, basically said, "this looks exactly like 2k8. Been playing live and enjoying it, but was chatting with my friend over XBL and he said that 2k9 is way better then 2k8 and that I'm missing a great game.

When I asked him how is it different, he couldnt really explain it.

Maybe the gameplay vids arent doing the game justice.

I have no brand preference, I just go towards the game that I think I'll enjoy more. Sooo..I figured I'd ask you fine folk who have played the game for the past month.

I never bought the game, but simply from the demo alone, off-ball movement is simply that much better. The post-game has also been handled better as well, especially with the game recognizing the kind of shot you want to take when in the paint. And the passing game has improved some... it's definitely not as wise to pass in traffic.

Defense is much more about penetration than trying to swat the ball, as well as double-teaming the big guys before they drive by just your one guy. Again, this is just with a 4-minute demo of Lakers and Celtics ball. I'd say it's rather substantial with some of these under-the-hood improvements.

It isn't much of an upgrade to be honest. That doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable, but like many of you, I just think I might be burned out from the current 2K engine. Playing it year after year after year. Live might be an option next year just to taste something different.
Have to re reviews for it first because if it is not good I won't buy it.

Still hurt there isn't a College Hoops 2K9, how good would that game have been. M m m

College Hoops was one of my favorite sports games ever. I simply cannot get motivate to buy NCAA Baksetball.

As far as NBA goes, its strange, I havent been on the fence about getting a 2k game since I started playing them in 04-05...but this one just hasnt grabbed me for whatever reason.

If you're unsure then you probably should just not get it. There is no consensus on how much of an upgrade it is.

I stopped playing 2k8 after a couple of weeks, but think this is by far the best basketball game I've ever played. There are others who share this opinion.

Another group of long time 2K players here think this game is unplayable, so without playing it yourself there is no real way to know what camp you will fall in.

guess it depends on what you like I guess. I absolutely love the game. Graphics, presentation, off ball movement, new animations are all upgrades. The ai is suspect to your preferences. Like everyone else I've been playing 2k since 2k and think this is the best one yet. There seem to be things that bother some people a lot more than others. with rosters and sliders I don't have many issues but thats me. If you like live just play that I guess. otherwise rent it man.

Re: Honestly Folks, How Much Is This A Upgrade over 2k8?

I am probably in the minority here but after messing with 2k9 since release I find myself asking "why did I not just stay with 2k8?" Sure 2k9 does some things better, sure it looks better (for the most part), but was it worth the money? Was it that much of an upgrade? I don't think so. Worse yet, the visuals in 2k9 have made it more difficult to look at CH2k8, which I love.

Looking back I probably should have rented it first (and I for it off trade-ins). I am sure it has a to do with the fact that I have sliders for 2k8 that play great while sliders in 2k9 seem to give inconsistent results.

I think it's a huge upgrade over 2K8. It's a ton of little things that really separates from last years title.

You'll have to really tweak the sliders, but once you get them established, it's hands down the best b-ball game out there.
