The New Lock-On D

Anyone else hating the new lock-on defense?
It seems great in principle to be able to set if you're gonna play tight, medium, or sag off, and be able to shade them and decide if you wanna send them to the middle or to the baseline but in actual application it's just horrible. First because it doesn't seem to "save" your setting, so everytime you pull the LT you'd have to set your intensity and direction again, and this just doesn't work when the offense is quickly moving the ball around or running around or if you happen to switch. Before you can set the intensity they've already left you in their dust or taken a shot. Another thing that kept happenning was when you try to "re-acquire" someone that you know is gonna take a jumper, your defender will actually step back if the lock-on is set to low, thereby giving him an open jumper.
I agree that last year it was a bit too powerful, but if they just toned it down a bit and took out the automatic blocking, it would have been perfect. Last year if you're on Lock-on and you pull the LS away from the guy you are guarding, your man will actually sag-off but still stay locked-on, you can also shade them L or R using the LS, but you can quickly close the gap by just releasing LS or pushing towards the guy on O.
It could just be me, so if anyone is having good success with it, I'm sure a lot of people here would like to hear your tips on how to use it properly.

Re: The New Lock-On D

So far I really like the new lock on D, but I've only played the demo, I think it will take a little while to get used to consistently using it effectively, but thats what makes 2k so much fun for me as I was still learning new things with 2k8 just last week, I think just fiddling around with it might get you some success.

Also, if someones just about to pull up for a jumper I'm not sure you need to use the lock on D, might as well just go up and attempt to alter or block it without the aid.

I liked it last year despite it's flaws, but I really like it this year, I'm glad they fixed it up.

You really have to concentrate on what you're doing on defense with this lock-on defense, I agree that it's somewhat hard to get used to and can sometimes be a pain in the behind but overall I think it's a step in the right direction...

I only have the demo but I've found that I tend to play better when I only use the lock-on defense to stay with a man when he makes a sharp move towards the basket, otherwise I just shadow him without using lock-on defense... It seems easier to contest jumpers that way.

I'd assume it's probably player specific again so it forces worse defenders to wait. Or, it just is generally delayed for everyone, which wouldn't surprise me either considering the complaints last year.

You use the right stick to switch between three tiers of defense (loose, reg, tight), and then you can also flick the right stick to the right or left to force someone to use the off hand.
