Re: Community Q&A: NBA 2K9

Are there more passing options? Can you throw a bounce pass on command etc...?

Did it feel like it would be more accessible to pull off nice crossovers, in and outs, half spins, etc?
I can't speak for your experiences, so probably not fair for me to say. I've never had too much trouble with the controls.

You mean like when the ball handler gets into the lane and goes for a layup? I couldn't tell you, but yea I didn't like that animation either.

Do big mens crossovers still cover alot of ground?

Has KG got a new jumpshot? I'd assume that he would have seeing as he is the cover boy.

Pull-ups were absent along with leaners 2K8. Are they in 2K9? And when you say there were leaners, were they off the dribble?

Do players rise quicker for their jumpshot when shooting off the dribble?
1. They definitely wanted to work on the sucked in double teams. Can't say I know for sure if it's perfect, but they did speak about how they weren't fans of it, so I would they'd like to see it changed.

2. I think I just talked about Booz and KG hitting mid-range shots. So at least in those cases, yes.

3. Did you see the E3 video?

4. Not sure. Basically Rob said a focus this year was making it so the bigs were now bigs. So essentially if a big is trying to bring the ball up the court, a guard will steal it from him as he should. So I would think it's harder for bigs to do moves as well, but I'd have to test it out to say for sure.

I wasn't looking too closely, but I didn't notice anything like the pasty/ogar looking Deron Williams of a year ago. I wish I had looked to see if they got more of his tatts in this year though.

1. Hard to say at this point since I was just trying to play solid post defense and contest the shots. Didn't really go for a steal or anything. With charges back in the game though I would think that would be a new weapon.

2. I wasn't really trying to hack, either was my opponent.

3. The Stuckey one and the AK one I talked about previously were the two I witnessed that I completed. I didn't see anything too insane.

Maybe it was just me but late in crunch when you need to intentional foul the players move slowly, and other users(on the offensive side) can easily avoid them. Did you ask if they fixed it so that computer moves faster to foul the player?
No I didn't, but yes I do agree that was an issue.

1. Were the alley oops tweaked or toned down in any way?

2. How was the contact in the paint? I'm concerned about--
-dunking under the basket
-physical presence of bigs forcing tougher shots
-overall collision

Thanks again, dude.
1. Like I said earlier, I'm mad I didn't ask about that during my play session because it was my biggest pet peeve last year -- shocked I didn't ask about it. I do have a request in asking how the overly fancy passes and alley oops have been tweaked though, so hopefully those folks get back to me.

2. Didn't see any dunks in the paint that didn't involve being on the move already (see: no standing dunks). So I'd have to wait until I saw them to judge how much of a pain they were.

-I forced some tough shots, might need to describe a situation you want to see mimicked in the game though for that one, so I could better answer.

-Collisions felt good from what I can tell. Players were colliding in pretty realistic fashion.

Would have to be something you look at over the course of many games to really tell for sure.

It's hard to say. I felt like there was more space out on the court, but whether that's because the players go into sets now -- therefore spacing the court -- or the court has been enlarged, or the players are smaller I can't tell quite yet.

are defenders still getting back in position way too fast so that its nearly impossible to get some open mid or 3pt jumpers?
1. I've talked about the spacing in a few posts. And see above for the other questions.

2. Hard to say, but like I said earlier, if you are ahead of the pack on the break, you won't be getting caught all the time like in previous years -- that's the promise at least from the devs. There weren't too many turnovers so I didn't get to see too many fastbreak opportunities.

Did you miss alot of contested shots?
Wouldn't be fair to say after 1 or 2 games for either.

The isomotion I think, people will have to get used to it again because of how the defender and ball handler interact with each other. Also I wasn't chaining moves together so easily like last year, which maybe was me just being rusty, or a concerted effort to tone down all the moves people would try to do, not sure yet. I think some might think it's unresponsive or sluggish the first time they play, but I think it's more just getting readjusted again to a new style.

Once again, you'd have to wait and see until a bigger sample comes out to judge.

If you can do custom passes they didn't tell me about it. The only new control I found out during my play session was that the B button (on 360, so that would be circle on PS3) is the pick and roll button now.

Re: Community Q&A: NBA 2K9

In 2k6, the leaners, were leaning to the right and left like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd56BSSDR1I
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtuKM...eature=related

Is it the same in 2k9?

Re: Community Q&A: NBA 2K9

Not sure if this was asked yet or not, but...

Have you noticed if there were more unforced-type turnovers. e.g.: Bad passes, throwing the ball out of bounds, lose the ball off the dribble, etc. as opposed to just interceptions and steals.

Also, do 3 point shooting big men actually get looks from beyond the arc? Guys like 'Sheed, Dirk, Rashard Lewis, etc. didn't really get any plays run for them to spot up for 3s.

edit: One more. How's the closing speed on the defensive players this year. You know how in years past defenders would cover ridiculous amounts of distance to block/contest shots. You know like, when you have a player out of the perimeter taking a jumper only to have a big come out from the post to contest it. Was quite absurd in years past really.

Re: Community Q&A: NBA 2K9

Sorry thought you were ofline :P

Some more questions....

1. Were there any of those coach cutscenes were they would be wagging there finger at you or just standing there with arms crossed?

2. How do the coaches look graphically comapred to the players on the court, and how does Jerry Sloan look this year?
