Wonderland's S&S (+rosters) 4.1
updated 11/4
Rosters: The included roster file is
Meh & Ryan's Total PC Roster, with slight modifications. My thanks to the fellas for letting me include it! It goes with the gameplay sliders overall in the sense that it's geared towards less inside stuff, slower pace, better defense, etc.
User offense: You should have a tougher time of getting your shot, and it will definitely be important to get open shots with these because it's tougher to knock them down. You'll have to run some plays or otherwise do a good job of strategizing and finding the open man or you're not gonna put up a good shooting percentage or points. It should also be tougher to cheese drives to the hoop, although some of that is up to the player. I recommend playing realistically on your part.
CPU offense: Major work has gone into trying to alter the awful tendencies of the cpu doing nothing but cut to the basket and score off-the-charts points in the paint. I think I've gotten to a point where you'll see a good distribution of shots, including plenty of mid range jumpers and enough threes. They won't be able to drive the lane at will anymore and if you're able to play competent D, you'll have a significantly improve experience from vanilla.
User defense: This has been improved to make it harder for the cpu to get inside and cheese those close shots. You still have to make an effort, do your best to cut off drives, call appropriate double teams and just do what real teams do to prevent opposing teams from lighting them up. You're cpu teammates should also be much more competent, giving good help defense while not abusing it by constantly leaving their man and switching off.
CPU defense: This is one of the best parts. I beleive it's pretty tough defense now and you really do have to work to get your shot. You can try just tossing them up from anywhere in any situation, but you're not going to have success. They'll also stick to their man better on the ball and make it tough to drive to the hoop. They also do a good job of playing passing lanes and forcing you to make good decisions and not carelessly throw the rock around expecting results.
Settings: I highly recommend trying out the supplied settings as they are designed to work in conjunction with the sliders. The minutes are set at 6 per quarter, so everything is easily multiplied by two for full-time stats.
If you want to play full-time, I would suggest making it 12 minutes because the sliders are balanced for slower gameplay and realistic action relative to a 12 minute quarter system.
Also, in the interest of realism, all possible icons that can be turned off are off for a minimalist look and feel. You really have to feel out the game for yourself instead of relying on tracking icons or anything else, making it more challenging and fun in my opinion.
One of the points I worked towards was realistic fouling, so if you're more into an arcade experience that's just non-stop action, this might not be for you. My ultimate goal is to get as close to a realistic games as possible, so there'll be realistic fouls in the lanes and even some jump shots fouls for overzealous fellas.
Fouls: I dropped the foul out limit to 3 to be consistent with the half-time feel of the settings. Now to go along with this, I've also dropped foul rates so there aren't as many and people don't get benched a minute into the game with 1 foul... at least not as often as it would have been before.
This also has some other good effects in that there are less free throws, more field goals, hence more rebounds which was lacking in recent versions with more fouls. It also works towards field goal percentage realism.
So here's the deal. If you guys want to go back to 6 foul out limit, you should go back to the previous setting of Reach In foul: 60 and Shooting foul: 85 to get back to the earlier levels of more fouls and free throws per game, without getting people benched and fouling out too early.
