just started getting into this

i am taking a break from basketball and fired this up (MVP 06) to really focus on it finally. this is quite a fun game. i like the fact some players suck. it reminds me so much of college hoops in the way you have to coach/play.

i took on the cal poly mustangs and B+ rated team. somehow, my great coaching has them rated a solid B now and I am 16-11. i am trying to find the right sliders for the game, but overall it is really fun.

heres what i like:

A) recruiting weekly, ala college hoops. i just realized i only have two starting pitchers returning and i have yet to recruit one. i suck.

B) the variety in player skills. some are good fielders and bad hitters and vice versa. that is the case in MLB type games but the disparity is so much more pronounced here.

C) you play small ball much more. i have to manufacture runs. in some pro games you score by the long ball too much.

D) errors are more frequent and believable than the pro games.

E) i can pick off runners. at first i didnt think you could, but then i picked off one in each of my past two games. the key is to really out-think the AI and throw pickoffs when you can surprise the runner.

F) player management. i need to work with my whole team as the stamina system seems to work much better than other games out there.

overall, i am going to really like this game. i hope to win my conference so i can make the tournament, but we'll see. my goal this year is to qualify and get some young talent in.

not yet. i started with jistic's from way back, but i have adjusted to taste.

the only problem i have had is the cpu batters are too disciplined. i will post my changes later.

I'm glad your digging it. I play this game all the time. Too bad you dont play 07 I am going to check if you can still play online. Which i belive you still can.

I just purchased 07 for $8.96 at Circuit City. I'd say it was well worth it. Its pretty good....yes even with the velocity issue with the Rock and Fire. I play it on my ps3. It looks pretty good with the upscaling and all.

Isn't recruiting Monthly only?

no. but your points add up. for instance, i get 170 points each week. if i dont use them they roll over to the next week. this is important if i ever want to send the head coach to see the recruit. it costs like 450 points or so.

you have to wisely use your scholarships too. nobody presently on my team has 100% schollies. you have to give a percentage to each player. a lot of my present players are walk ons. you also offer promises to each when then commit to you. anything from nothing to 1st thru 4th year starter.

i simmed ahead to see what happens and my 93 rated soph catcher transfers because i wasnt starting him at catcher when he was promised to start as a second year player. my starter was a senior rated 96. i was DH'ing the soph. so, i decided to DH the senior for the rest of the season.

it is a different recruiting system than college hoops and ncaa football 06 (which i have been playing the last 2 1/2 years) but i like it. i got some quality pitching walk ons in my simulation. so i really hope it happens again when i finish actually playing the season, because i can already see my recruiting strategy this year will fail miserably. well, there is always next year.

Ok cool, I think I'm about to start a dynasty with my sooners. I fail miserbaly though on fielding and let the CPU play it for me, and I make the throws.

thats exactly what i do. playmaker recommended that with mlb the show because it made the players field to their own ratings and i agree with it.

Yea it plays really great on MVP NCAA for me it does atleast.
