I seem to keep coming back to this game

even after playing the Show and MLB 2K7. This game still has the best engine and overall contextual baseball game feel. They need to just upgrade graphics and game play and go for the next gen next year

For the first time since its release, I'm actually really enjoying MVP '06 again. I'm not the type who has to know who all the real players are, so the fake names don't bother me. And I do love this engine.

I'm playing a dynasty with one of the lowest ranked teams in the game, the Holy Cross Crusaders, and am having some amazingly good games - on default AA sliders. I haven't changed a thing - and I'm getting walks, K's (usually 5 a game with my starters, and sometimes more) for both me and the CPU. Before you ask - I WILL intentionally siomtimes throw outside the zone on 3-ball counts, but that's because I know that the CPU will chase sometimes. It's not an artificial effort to drive up the walks. I also pitch almost exclusively to the edges of the strikezone, which allows me to throw a few more balls that I didn't mean to throw. Basically, I try to pitch as the CPU does, and it works really well.

I'm 5-5 through 10 games, and am starting to understand what my players are and aren't capable of. I'm not winning games I have no business winning - I got trounced by Auburn in the second series and actually started the season 0-4. I have Iowa coming up in the next series, so we'll see how that goes.

In the last game I played, I also had one of the most exciting moments I've had in video baseball games - an inside-the-park walkoff homer. The scene: Cornrow Park. Line drive slicing toward left center, and the center fielder starts taking a direct line, has an "oh s***" moment, and cuts back and chases the ball down 400+ feet away. It was a close play at the plate - so close that I had to slide headfirst, but I just knew he was going to make it the whole time. The best part is that you know the CPU isn't going to screw up like that often - it was all about the CF's ratings (rather poor).

I'm still playing the Show (and loving it), but MVP '06 is just an entirely different, but just as enjoyable experience.

I agree, The Show is good as well. Its just that it has taken me a much longer time to find a set of sliders i like. I dont have that issue w/MVP. Its cool to hear someone else enjoying the MVP 06 experience...

I'm thinking about firing up MVP 06 myself. There is alot of things to like about the show, but the overall engine just ain't on the same level as MVP, IMO.

I had to have a 360 but long for my fatty deuce. It sure wasn't this way when I went from the PS1 to the deuce. Remember a few years back when you had all of the baseball choices? Every game really had a chance to meet every gamer's needs. Personally, I liked MVP, but I sucked at the pitching meter so I played High Heat, 2k, and ASB. Oh my, those were the days!

Re: I seem to keep coming back to this game

I also have to say this:

alot of people have expressed frustration that more stadiums were not included in the game. However (at least in the 06 version). The customability of creating your own stadium I think is beautiful here. there are definately a great deal of various types of stadiums one can choose to create. I don't like alot of the default stadiums for teams and find myself creating another ballpark for them. I feel that the game is way underrated and that the x-box 06 version is primed ala ESPN NFL2k5. Also of people still love MVP 05 and that is a good game too but the upgrade even if it is for college ball makes this game a must keep. I have the Show and although I like it, it doesnt hold me. MVP is just more "fun" imo.

Re: I seem to keep coming back to this game

So is this officially the best baseball game out there again? I'm sure the Show is good, but unless it's changed a lot from last year, it's not better than this. And MLB 2K sounds horrible based on what I've read on it's board. It's too bad nobody seems to be playing this, I could use a good set of sliders (can't strike out enough batters!).
