finally tried this game

i picked up MVP 06 on ebay for about $4.50 and it is a real bargain. this is quite a nice game. i really like mvp's style of baseball. they did a lot right with this game. i do not really think i am going to like swing stick. i like the old style they developed better. but i may try it after a while.

one thing i really like is that i do not know anything about the players in college baseball. everything could be all topsy-tury but i wont get upset because i could care less. i dont know how any player ratings should be or how it isnt exactly like the real team. i love it.

in fact, i went to skip a team i felt would suck bad, (arkansas st. they suck in college hoops and ncaa football) but they were rated 51 while my team was ranked 40. so i played them. i need to scout every team before i play them. this is going to rock.

i like that i have to figure out my team individually and play to its strengths. i reminds me of college hoops in that way when i take over a crappy team and build them up. except in ncaa mvp i chose a B rated team in cal poly. i get to play oregon state and cs fullerton this season.

the recruiting looks good too. i like the challenges so far and the branding from it. i do not know if i will continue to like it but it makes for fun now.

i do not want to know the bugs or glitches. i was going to play MVP 05 for several seasons over the next year or two, but i found out that there is a progressions bug in that game so i stopped. i dont want this game ruined also.

i wont compare what is better between all the options because i have a least one version all of the brands. they all do something right and/or wrong.

What's the progression bug in MVP2005? I always thought progression was done very well in that game -- its very random. And I think someone on the MVPMods website released a file that is supposed to make it even more realistic on the PC version.

I just picked up a cheap copy of MVP06 myself on half.com. I gave up on MLB07:The Show, needed a new baseball fix & wasn't willing to shell out $400+ so I could play "MLB2k7". "The Show" is a good game, but there were a few things about it that were just too irritating to me -- no trades in franchise/season modes, the juiced offense, plus the stuttering video was just awful on my PS2. I will miss classic pitching however.

I am starting to realize that while I prefer watching the pros, in general I prefer college video games. Too often franchise modes are broken in the pro games. In the college games, problems are easier to overlook just because of the number of teams involved and the fact that powerhouse programs tend to stockpile great players even in real life. Its not like playing an NFL game and wondering why the Chargers are drafting a RB with their first round pick.

i had read there was a progression problem with minor league players, but if that is not the case then i may go back to that game also. i rotate between seasons of different sports games. that keeps them fresh for me.

i agree with the college thing also. for years, i always played ncaa way more than madden. then i played college hoops 2k way more than nba 2k. i do like the pro hockey games, but i usually only played a season.

i am really enjoying nba 2k7's franchise this year, though. it's up again after i finish mvp ncaa 06.

Hmm, well its been a while since I played MVP05, but I do remember that most of the players you drafted would never amount to anything. So you may be right about that one. While I loved MVP05 I never made it through more than 2 seasons so it wasn't that important to me.

I know I'm in the minority, but while I really liked CH2k5, 2k6 was a source of great frustration for me due to the mapping of moves to the right stick. As someone who has trouble walking & chewing gum at the same time, I tried for hours to get comfortable with it but just couldn't make it work consistently.

Re: finally tried this game

I received my copy of '06 in the mail a few days ago and started the first 5 games of an ASU dynasty this weekend. I'm really enjoying this game! I planned to use zone hitting but figured I'd give 'Load & Fire' a try. To my surprise it turns out I really like analog batting. Too bad I can't say the same about analog fielding, but at least I can switch back to classic.

I don't care what anyone says about the other baseball games, the MVP engine is so much better than any game out there when it comes to hit and foul ball variety. If MVP just had the classic pitching mode that "The Show" has, this game would be perfect. I've just never been a big fan of metered pitching.

I'm getting a nice variety of scores with Jistic's AA sliders -- had one 3-2 game and won my last game 10-6 against Cal poly. The only problem is that my RF with around 93-95 speed (already forgot his name) is going to force me to raise the CPU OF speed slider. Nobody else on my team is hitting that well, but he already has 7 triples in 5 games! And I didn't have to slide for any of them either.

I'm not a big college baseball fan, but I think this game will stay in heavy rotation in the PS2 over the summer.

Re: finally tried this game

I just bought a copy of '06. Played it for 2 nights in a row and I'm really liking it. I started out in All-American level, but got shelled by the CPU. It seems like at that level, CPU hitters never swing at anything other than a strike, no matter how much I tried to set them up with pitches. In 2 nights I only struck out 1 CPU hitter. Slider tweaks cannot alter how super-selective the CPU hitters are. And when they swing and connect, the ball travel so much further than when I was hitting the ball. That's when I knew it's time to go down to varsity level. Does anyone have sliders tweaks for MVP 06?

Try starting the cpu off with down and away fastballs right on the edge of the strike zone. If you get two strikes on the cpu press straight down on the analog stick and throw a curve ball(CPU bites on this alot). If you get the cpu down 0-2 try pressing straight up on the analog stick and throw 1 or 2 fastballs to him out of the zone and then throw him the low curve. I get alot of strike outs this way.
