General online connection "stuff"

I've recently been trying to get into XBox Live more than in the past. Could someone give me some tips to ensure as much of a "lag free" experience as possible? Can you ping a possible opponent or something like that? So far, I've started games, found the lag to be very bad but didn't want to quit because I don't want a DNF against me.

That's the way it's been since MVP first went online. I think all sports games have a little lag but in baseball you need no lag because it's all based on timing. I hate swinging early and I hate hitting the pitch meter early. The hitting is harder because you have to swing extra early. Hopefully EA can get some good servers that have no lag at all.

yeah cause i seem to " miss" with my pitches too much, and then WXkid sends them to the outfield over my outstretched arms! lol

Re: General online connection "stuff"

I don't know if lag really even represents what I'm trying to get across. I'm talking about choppiness that is so bad you can't stop the pitch anywhere in the green zone about 1/2 the time. Same with batting. The windup...pause...another frame or so...pause....a second or so of movement...then the ball crosses the plate. I have played games in the past where you have to be a little ahead of what you're used to offline. I somewhat expect that and can handle it but what I'm experiencing lately is brutal. For all I know, it could be me...I've got a cable modem (wireless XBL) but it usually tests out at around T1 speed when I test it using an online site. I'm baffled and just don't know enough about this stuff to know what to do. I wonder if the wireless XBL is the culprit.

great advice until the wife comes in and sees you not swinging at first-pitch strikes down the middle of the plate. And that's when all hell breaks loose...

I'll have to try a hardwired connection. If that is the problem, it sucks because the wireless unit costs around 100.00. Oh well...live and learn I guess.

Are you talking about a wireless router or a wireless adapter that is built into your xbox/ps2?? Is it a g-card or b-card??

Re: General online connection "stuff"

Well, I've got a wireless router and I bought the XBL wireless adapter also. My son uses the computer next to the XBox all the time (it doesn't have wireless capability) and it became a pain to unhook the cable and plug it into the XBox because he might need the computer connection while I want the XBL connection so I settled on the XBL adapter. The adapter captures the signal "wirelessly", and comes with a cable that you plug into the back of the XBox just like you would a wired connection. I'll unplug the computer connection and plug it directly into the XBox and see if that helps.
