So how is the cheese?

I play mostly online with my sports games and the cheese is awful in every
game I own. How is it in this game? It seems that it might be easier to
create a cheese free baseball game...
I'm thinking about picking this up to play for a while but figure I see
super cheese base stealing, people bunting every play, etc...
I hope I'm wrong...
How would you rate this games online play compared to NCAA football?

thanks

How is it cheese?

I don't bunt every play, hell, I don't bunt at all. And depending which of the two teams I play with, I rarely steal. But I'm not exactly sure how something is cheese. If you can't stop them, then don't complain. There's a reason why real baseball doesn't bunt every at bat. Because defenses can stop that, learn how to stop it and it won't be cheese.

I'm in a league now and we are in a debate with one owner this is all he does is bunt and steal every play. Here are some quotes from the forum.

Ok so im ranked 7th online (Nordak) and well my online league wants me out because i use Arizona and my 1-2 hitters have 90-96 speed and well i bunt and they arent used to it so i easily get on and steal second base then when i go to third i make it about 60% of the time. Well they want me out because I bunt and steal more then whats real. I just want to know what your opinons are. I mean look at Reyes last year having 80 or more stolen bases and whenever he got on he made an attempt to steal. You tell me should i get the boot or should i stay cause I really dont get whats wrong with me doing what my team is doing best.

Yea well im 62-11 So ha lol i got no life. But will everyone report that xdimedimex guy who is like 125-0 because if u look at his stats he plays the same guy (who is probably like a friend) and the other guy quits. So yea everyone report that one guy for cheating.

I'm not saying bunting is cheese, I don't even own this game yet. I may
go buy it any minute now. I was just asking if the online play for MVP is
as cheesy as NCAA football? I've had some great football games online but
more times than not I'm facing HB Direct all game, 4-4 nano blitz, guys quiting
if they don't score on thier first possession, Disco glitches where I get the
loss, etc... This point isn't if I can stop the cheesers, sometimes I can, sometimes
I can't. I just don't want to face cheesers at all, its boring...
It seems like this game could be much better online that Football, but I don't
own it, so that's why I'm asking...

I agree there is a reason why real teams don't bunt every play, because in
real baseball that can be stopped. BUT, there is also a reason in Football that
teams don't run the same D every play, and run the QB every play because
that can be stopped. But in online NCAA football, its very very hard to stop
if the cheeser is good at it. So... Hence my question about MVP online...
How cheesy is it compared to football?

Thanks

Stick with your friends list, or find some guys that will play more of a SIM game with you. Heck, you can even ask some of your fellow OS'ers to play a game or two, and I am sure you can find some decent opponents who will play the game the right way.

I do that when possible but I usually play between 2am and 5am so I have to
play whoever is online at that time, strangers...

Re: So how is the cheese?

Only played 2 games online, and both guys were pretty respectable. One guy hit a homer off the foul poul and decided it was important to show me the replay of it from every angle which was annoying. One guy pitched the exact same all game. He'd spend forever trying to pinpoint his pitch right on the edge of the strike zone, or just barely outside. He would also throw a change up down the middle, but it would drop a ways below the strikezone. While tough at first, he got unbelievably predictable. Myself on the other hand was changing speeds, going away and then coming up and in, and totally confusing him. It was awesome.

Re: So how is the cheese?

Just played a really annoying guy. The whole time all he pitched was forkballs right on the outside lower corner. No matter how well I timed my hitting, all I could do was make weak hits opposite field. The guy sucked at hitting...I carried a no hitter through 7, and then I made an error in the 9th and let him score. I had 10 hits to his 3, but he still beat me. I had men on base several times, but then would come the ball low and away that was almost impossible to hit with anything on it. (LazyScoop)

Played another guy that only used the power button and the 3rd ranked team. He's ranked in the top 50 (Captain Wankie). At first I was getting ganked, gave up like 3 home runs before I realized his strategy. Then I threw up and inside and had him swinging at everything, but he still beat me.

And this isn't real baseball, it's a video game. In MVP NCAA, you really have no control over who fields the bunts. I've seen the CPU bunt against me, and it will land 3 feet in front of my catcher, but he isn't even an option to switch to, I have to field it with my first baseman, and hope he can make a bigtime play.

I don't like these people who say "Cheese doesn't exist, if you can't stop something, you just aren't good enough." Wrong. There is a difference between someone running the same basic run or pass play in football, and you just completely choking in terms of stopping it. It's another thing to exploit holes and weaknesses in the A.I. of the game, and use them to help you win, because you KNOW your opponent is handcuffed by the A.I., and cannot stop you.
