Must Have Mods?

I dug MVP2005 PC out of of the closet this weekend and figured I'd re-install it. I know there is a very robust community still around for this game. What are the "must have" mods I need to get the game up to date? I checked mvpmods and eamods, but honestly there are so many mods, I have no idea which ones to get. Also, are there any issues with using the Microsoft 360 controller for windows? I seem to remember I had a hell of a time mapping controls with this game before with my previous gamepad.

Thanks

Re: Must Have Mods?

The easiest answer to this would be to just download the 07 mod as it includes most of the must have additions.

The 08 mod is in beta testing right now if you want to wait for the new update however.

Thanks Vike,

Is it possible to install the 07 mod then update that with 08 rosters?

Re: Must Have Mods?

I would get Total Classics Phase 9 which was released within the last few weeks. This has the Top 120 teams off all time, very cool to play some fantasy games such as the '27 Yanks vs the '98 Yanks, etc. This includes everything, old time stadiums (the old Yankee Stadium and Ebbets Fields are two gems), rosters, cyberfaces, etc.

I would also install whichever single season mods you like, so far they have...
-1956
-1961
-1964
-1967
-1978
-1994

I believe 1969, 1999 and 1988 are in the works. If I had to pick, I would suggest getting '61, '78 and '94.

As for current stuff, I'd DL the MLB 07: Reboot version from eamods. There are updated rosters, stadiums and uniforms for 2008 but at this point the final MVP 08 mod is almost ready to release so I would probably just wait a week or two.

If you don't want to wait, get TheSpungo's 2008 uniforms and KG's 6.0 roster update. With KG's roster you'll have to manually add cyberfaces and portraits for a lot of players, but that will all be included in the complete 08 mod.

As for gameplay, the big thing is the datafiles. I use Jim825's and other popular ones are MaggiesDaddy's, Kumala's and KSM's. These also vary the camera angles used during gameplay and cutscenes.

Yup, you can basically make your own MVP 08 minus some unreleased cyberfaces, portraits and I believe the Nationals' new stadium.

Just DL the latest version of TiT (Total Installer Thingy) which makes life very easy.

For the roster update your talking about, after you've installed the 07 mod just download KG's 6.0 roster update (it's the headliner on eamods.com) and click & drag the files to your database folder and you're all set - but again some of the cyberfaces will not be there.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll just mess around with the game untill MVP 08 is available.

Re: Must Have Mods?

Depends on what you mean by "must have". Plus, different machines run the game differently. It does really depend on what you want to fool with. I would say the #1 mod to absolutely make the game improved is the grass changer or field changer. Taking away the EA fake aluminum shimmering grass is a must. I'd say behind that, a datafile to make the gameplay/camera angle as you desire. Personally, I like MD's (with a foulball PIP removed that I added to it..... posted somewhere in the archives of this sub-forum). Some guys will tell you cyberfaces are important, but others really don't fool with them. I actually think portraits are more important than cyberfaces. I think it looks more foolish for a guy to come to the plate and he's wearing a cap in his portrait from another team.

And not that you'd call it a "mod", but the right slider set for how you play is a make and break feature of the game.

I see what you mean, I guess by "must have" I mean graphics/roster related enhancements, ones that are considered the best of the community.

Thanks for the help
