Lack of human hit variety (PC)

So I started playing this game pretty religiously again on the PC. I hadn't played it "for real" in over a year - and haven't touched it besides testing out a few new mods.

After playing several exhibition games in the last few days I simmed year one w. the Yanks in a dynasty, won the division and drew the A's (as always) in the ALDS.

I just finished Game 3 and I lead the series 2-1. I have scored 7 runs in the series, all on solo home runs. It's the only way I can hit the ball, if I try any strategy besides preloading up-and-in I hit the ball weak as hell or directly at a fielder every time. I just had the last 10 outs of Game 3 be hit right at an A's fielder, I mean they hardly had to move. The only time I ever get a single is if it's back up the middle. It is not possible to get a single between 3B/SS or 2B/1B because the ball is always hit so slowly, even when hit it on the screws.

I don't remember the human hit variety being so piss poor in this game. I see no bloopers, no hits down the line, no line drives to the gap, the IF's move back and catch damn near everything because there is no such thing as a true line drive in this game. I feel like I'm watching the MLB in NCAA '08 the way they go back on these "line drives". I mean, has that ever happened in real life?

I personally thought people always overrated MVP '05, but I don't remember it being this frustrating. I think I may permanently retire this game, all it is is home run derby.

Try this datafile (unzip to "data" subfolder)..... and don't hold up and in with the thumbstick, wait to move it until the pitch comes to the plate. Default sliders suck as well. Try to find something over at mvpmods that suits you.

(The datafile is basically MD's without the foul ball PIP).

Re: Lack of human hit variety (PC)

It could have to do with the fact that its the post-season because the last world series I played my hitting went down the crapper in the exact same way yours did. Everything I hit was weak and most my hits were right back up the middle too. The only difference is I could not hit a homerun to save my life. I was even thinking about turning the hitters eye back on, but when I exited out of my dynasty and played a exibition game my hitting was back to normal. I think it has to do with the fact that in the post-season the cpu will throw all his pitches at pretty much 100% effectiveness because I was facing the yankees and pettite had a cutter that broke like a freaking slider.

Im playing on the ps2 so it could be a completely different reason for me than it is you.

Re: Lack of human hit variety (PC)

Thanks daflyboys, I had been looking at datafiles and wondering if there was one that allowed for harder hit balls. I believe there was one, I'm not sure if the one that you posted is indeed it.

I feel like the name "MD" is familiar, I may already have his datafile in use. I'll test it out today or tomorrow and we'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the help.

The thing I like about MD's datafile is it seems to reward rallies as well as pitchers hitting a good streak in the game. Maybe that's my imagination, but I think I remember MD talking something about that over at mvpmods in his thread.

Re: Lack of human hit variety (PC)

That datafile made a huge difference, thank God.

I'm playing the Blue Jays (don't know how that happened) in the ALCS right now and the first three games were...

W 11-6
L 7-6
W 2-1

The hitting feels normal again, and I was ripping the ball down the line and to the alley when I should have. I finally hit a HR to center field again too. MVP is alive and well!

Re: Lack of human hit variety (PC)

That's great! Ya, I love it too....MD did a great job on that file. I've tried other, but I don't know.....there's something about his. I just didn't like the foul ball PIP, so I got a little edjumacation over at mvpmods on how to manipulate the datafile.txt and amazing didn't screw it up! My brother and I use this for online PC battles and we see the same results (except for the pitching meter being smaller than you would see offline.).
