bunting on the PS2

I've never been able to figure this out, hopefully one of you guys can help me. To bunt on the ps2 controller you press the right analog control. How do you pull back the bat if you know it's a ball. Do you let go, or do you press the left analog button. I know there is a lag in the screen shot/game so I have my slider at 50, but I still can't pull it back on a unhittable pitch. Thanks for your time. Roger
