Incredibly Annoying

I was playing this guy on Live the other night. He was playing as the Red Sox (like everyone else) and I with the Twins. He was pitching with Tim Wakefield. Here is where it gets annoying: every single pitch was a knuckleball! Every single one! Of course I learned to not swing at them and walked a few times, but it hardly makes it worthy to play whenever someone sticks with one pitch.

I ended up beating the kid in 9 innings with Santana pitching into the 8th. Since he used Curt Schilling to relieve Wakefield (another one of my pet peeves) I relieved Santana with Erstad.

I wouldn't call this cheating but I definitely wouldn't call this fair play too. Plus the 14 year old moron was high too (he said he was and his friend was laughing hysterically in the background the ENTIRE time!). Ain't XBox Live great?

Any other stories of annoying gamers?

95% of the pitches Wakefiled throws are knuckleballs so I would say it was ok for him to throw them all the time. Let's just say it wouldn't bother me. It's the same with someone who has a 95mph fastball. If I don't hit it, why should they change pitches?

Re: Incredibly Annoying

I can understand that. Wakefield has 3 more pitches to choose from. But what made this annoying and I didn't put this in my post: he was constantly taunting me about not being to hit his knuckler and throwing out insults. Kind of harsh for some one who can't hit off a guy. I beat him that game and I showed him what class was...I said nice game and disconnected.

I played a guy who used Wakefield last night, and he tried to do the same thing. However, a line drive to the face by Reggie Sanders in the second inning quickly (and humorously) resulted in and injury and him having to be replaced by Schilling. The very first pitch by Curt after he entered the game was a fastball Mark Grudzielanek drove over 400 feet for the eventual game-winning homerun. It was quite good.

Re: Incredibly Annoying

I have a friend who ONLY pitched Wakefield, or well, he could ONLY win with Wakefield, in MVP 2004 (offline)... And if that's the only way the guy can win, then let him play that way... you've got to modify your game to beat him. Eventually, you get the timing down and you can beat the knuckle ball.

He's not going to throw the fastballt hat often because Wake's fastball sucks... His curve is pretty good, but not as good as the knuckler. If you get a guy on base against Wakefield, it's an easy steal, even with a pitchout you have a chance. You've got to play small ball against a pitcher like that.

I do, however, HATE it when people bring in other starters into a game ... it's bull ****. When I'm playing with friends, we have unwritten rules to only use the right guys... and sometimes, when we have 15, 16, 17 inning games ... we KEEP using the last reliever. Changing that makes it stupid. .. the game could go on for 40, 50 innings... if the starters pitched consistantly.

Re: Incredibly Annoying

I love it when people use knuckleballs...

just sit back, see which side of the plate it's on.. make sure it starts high... and hit HR's...

one guy only threw curveballs to me and at first I was surprised and it caught me off guard but once I started sitting back on them I got a lot of walks and like 15 hits that game, then in the 5th he quit.... like all the losers do

I don't mind if they spread it out, but the people who just alternate between low strikes and balls need to get a life.
