Go in to select player and then hit, I believe square. It will highlight the player it recommends drafting. But that player is usually unscouted and generally ends up being a low potential player.

In my first year draft on my mariners chise i got 3 A potential players and like 2 B's in my draft. the big thing is making sure your scouts only scout till the potential then move him to a new prospect, also dont scout the 16-17 year old guys cause you cant draft them anyways.

I always scout the 16-17 year old guys. Give's me a full year / 2 years of already having them scouted meaning I can relegate my scouts to other needs / positions / deeper scouting in those next couple of years.

IMO scout the 16-17 year old players ASAP at positions you see yourself needing in a year or so. This will give you a head start on stockpiling for the future.

I'll scout 18+ heavy in the beginning. Once I feel like I have enough guys scouted for the next draft I will move on to younger players to do exactly as you mentioned and get a jump on the next season's scouting priorities but why scout them first? You still have a year and a half to get to them. I also like writing down names of guys I scout and high level potential guys to see how they do if they get drafted by the cpu.

yea your right, or after the draft make sure to get them 16-17 year olds for next year as you probably will have alot of the 18-22 guys already scouted. but theres no reason to scout the ones that aren't eligible first when you can do it after the draft.

Great thread, fellas.

I'm quickly approaching June and I haven't revealed a ton of potentials yet. Hopefully my guys can come through and I can make a splash. The advice in this thread is invaluable. Thanks again!

If this is your first year it won't matter. The first year you get randomly scouted guys because the pool was from the previous season. Your manual scouting won't help until the second year draft.

Re: Franchise Questions (draft related)

The draft is a huge part of my franchises. Since I usually play as the Royals, I have to lean on the draft to get good quality players. If I mess up one draft then I could set my Franchise behind a whole 2 years. I go in and have my scouts check players that I feel meet the profile of that position. If my Franchise is in need of an impact player quickly I will usually go after a college player or freakishly advanced high schooler in some cases. If I have time then I draft high school players. For me it just depends on the position my Franchise is in.

In order to draft the best players available, go to the scouting screen and look at the top prospects in each region and scout them until you have their potential and/or overall rating (players with D potential and great tools can develop high potentials).

This strategy is the most effective that I have found after drafting 10+ phenoms, many solid players and many many many busts. And just because they have an A potential does not mean they will be above average and develop good tools, learned that one the hard way.
