You could start with something like the storylines in OOTP13 or Football Manager, or the post-game press interviews from NBA 2K12. Make what my character does (and says) mean something in-game, beyond the box score and beyond his personal stats. You could develop relationships with other players and coaches -- show some behind-the-scenes chemistry that we sports fans crave to be a part of.

Become a big-name player, and get the SI cover, or better yet, have to navigate through a SI-type soft profile. Say the wrong thing to the wrong people -- take Ozzie Guillen's latest foot-to-mouth as an example -- and you're benched for a week. Do it too often, and you're unconditionally released.

Make it more personal, less about clicking through menus and hitting certain targets. How about... "Make enough money to buy your mom a home," and then show the "home" you purchased for your dear ol' mum. Or, "Start a record company," and be able to name the stupid thing. One of the problems is that there's nothing inherently "valuable" about getting a big contract; it's just another screen off another menu that I have to click through. So why should I care if management wants to stiff me? If you remind us of the life we're for all intents and purposes roleplaying, it'll make the results of things like contract signings much more meaningful.

I'd like to roleplay a Kenny Powers through the majors. Barring that, I'd like to roleplay a Barry Bonds through the majors. Let me experience what it's like to be a major leaguer -- on and off the field.
Yeah this would be nice but its not gta

Re: Road to the Show Improvement Ideas

Overall
Obviously, the off-field activities would be great to have, but I think they have heard enough suggestions from every other post. No offense to those that have done so.

Fielding Perspective
I don't know if anyone else has posted things similar since I didn't look through every page, but I always thought RTTS could use some improvement with fielding, such as camera angles and change of direction of the camera while fielding to make your player go in a completely different direction. This occurs to me often as a pitcher attempting to cover first base on a simple play when the first basemen fields the ball and flips the ball to the pitcher covering. For an outfielder, the ball will look like it is going one way, and then the other due to the change of the camera angle.

Goals
The goals need a little tuning, and I think it should be formatted by goals needed to be done in a period of time along with goals that are not mandatory to finish in time, but are attributes that need to be improved on to get to the MLB. Also, like many other people in this forum, the goals should ease up with stats, such as hitting an X amount of home runs in a short period of time.

That's basically it! Haha I thank those who took time to read this and would appreciate your positive feedback!

The one thing that really annoys me about this otherwise fun mode is the baserunning controls. I like the camera angle, very immersive, but it's so frustrating when you start to run and then your guy turns back because of where the ball went.

And please get rid of that groan-like noise when it pops up simulating to the end of the game. It doesn't add anything, and it just sounds horrible.

I love rtts... it's pretty much all I play. But I hate the trades with a passion. It's like the game punishes you for playing well (when you on your favorite team or any team you want to be on). It's super annoying when you're killing it only to get traded for some mediocre player, plus there is no escape... everytime I think I'm home free since the trade deadline has passed I get traded. Getting that dreaded "You've been traded!" just makes me sick.

Re: Road to the Show Improvement Ideas

Baserunning opportunities:
I'd love to get asked if I want to run in this specific situation. With options like "Yes", "Skip to next change" (batter strikes out, everybody advances, runner on second steals third/advances to third off a deep fly ball etc.), "No" as in "Skip to next fielding opportunity/at bat". So you don't have to manually activate base running when you want to steal 2B or 3B (or maybe home) but you don't want to run with a runner in front of you (or you generally suck at base running except for base stealing, like me).

Advancement goals:
Total bases, home runs and RBI goals should be more realistic according to your current stats (or stats from the last 8 weeks or so). Currently the game wants me to drive in 22 runs and reach 60 total bases in the next 4 weeks.
The league leader in TB and RBI has 233 total bases and 82 RBIs in 101 games. This would take him 26 games to reach the TB goal and 27 for the RBI goal. In a 28 day period you have 3 or 4 days off as a team, not to mention the games you're missing because you need a break, so that leaves us with 24-25 games at best. I don't see those numbers happening, even for the league leader.

Fielding percentage goals are another issue. The game asks me to have at least .990, .993 or .997 in fielding percentage in my first MLB season. Which is more or like the same as 1.000 because if you have one error you're just not getting enough put outs and assists to compensate that error. To reach .990 you are allowed one error for every 99 successful PO/A (142 PO/A for .993 and 333 PO/A for .997).

I don't have the actual RTTS stats for league leaders at hand so I have to rely on the current MLB stats.:
Carlos Pena (1B) currently leads the league with 704 PO and 62 A. He has played 85 games and started in 82 (9.01 Range Factor). If that would be our RTTS player he is allowed 1 E every 10+ games to reach .990 (.993 FPCT 1 E allowed every 15+ games, .997 FPCT 1 E allowed every 36+ games)

The first non 1B or C in that category, SS J.J. Hardy, has 131 PO and 279 A in 83 games (all started) - 4.94 RF.
.990 = 20+ games per E
.993 = 29+ games per E
.997 = 67+ games per E

My current RTTS CF has 9 errors on the season with a FPCT of just under .960 in 105 games. Thats a 2.14 RF and I would need 46+ games to compensate one error and reach .990 (66+ games for .993 and 155+ games for .997).

As those FPCT are looking doable on first glance, you're just not gonna reach that goal if you commit one error in the course of the 4 weeks.

I think SCEA should go take a look at the Connected Careers in Madden NFL 13. It allows you to play as a created player, current player of a legendary player or coach in an Online or Offline league. It's like a franchise but you can play as one individual player like a RTTS.

Thumbs down Re: Road to the Show Improvement Ideas

One thing I really don't like is being traded every single time!
I start with the Mets and before getting called up I get traded to some cheapy team
is there any way that you guys could change that, to put like an option to turn off the CPU trades or something like that!... please....that would really help!! thanks

We have already started our discussions here in the studio about what directions we would like to go, but before we get too far, I want to make sure everyone here at OS gets the opportunity to help out. I certainly can't make any promises that your idea will be implemented, but if it fits into our plan or is something we really really like, it just may become a new feature.

I will be reading the posts on this thread daily, and I hope that some really positive things for the mode can come from this. PLEASE refrain from simply bringing up a complaint or reporting a bug. This is meant to be a place for new, fresh ideas that will help make RttS even more fun and engaging.

With all that said, have at it!

Thanks,

I don't know if it would mean an entire revamp or what, but the progression system is broken in my experience. No matter what type of position player you set out to make, the game almost always requires you to become a power hitter.

But more to the point, you are forced to advance too quickly in the RTTS' that I've played. The problem comes from the advancement goals (which never go away, even if you're an multi-MVP in the majors, btw).

For example, if you miss your goals, you're punished not just by being sat down for a couple games or whatever, but by being demoted (either to a bench role or to a lower level). It never takes into consideration your role on the team, your overall abilities or the type of player you are. I made a speedy/leadoff type infielder and I am always told to hit at least one homer as one of my goals despite having no power. So, when I miss that, I get sent to the bench and have to spend the whole season trying to break back into the starting lineup I never should have been removed from, usually being told to hit a home run.

On the other side, should you reach you're goals, you're promoted far too fast. My player (by some weird move by the organization) signed me to a MLB contract as the starter despite not being anywhere near ready for MLB (played two AA seasons and had one decent year).

But because you're punished so severely for missing your goals, you have to reach them. And when you do, you're moved too fast. There is no time to develop. Or, you don't get enough training points to improve because you're on the bench.

Basically, there's no way to develop your player to be ready for the next level when you move up. And I understand that some players in real life are moved up to AAA or the majors before they're ready, but it's not often. It feels like there isn't enough development time for players and you're dominated when you move up too fast because of the goals.
Exactly! In my RTTS, I am trying to create a "Mike Trout clone," but better. He is faster, plays better defense and is just an all-around better player. So far, I have his speed up to 99, his contact is in the A range, but his power is in the D/F range. Apparently, his RTTS goals revolve around him hitting the long ball despite the fact that he plays for the Tigers and bats lead off.

I failed his last set of goals. Four home runs, 23 RBI's in TWO WEEKS despite the fact that he bats lead off and has the D/F power grade... He should be piling up hits and stealing bases, but RTTS never asks that of him. I imagine Jose Canseco telling him, "Chicks dig the long ball, so hit some bombs or be benched..."

.336 BA, 49 steals, 177 hits through 148 games and he gets benched for not meeting the goal of hitting four home runs and knocking in 23 in two weeks. LOL, my guy is an elite level player and he got six at-bats in September as despite my pleas in the "Interactions" area, he will start the playoffs as the fourth outfielder for the Tigers DESPITE being SECOND in the AL MVP VOTING. Yeah, that's a bit out of whack.

Not meaning to complain, but the goals system needs a HEAVY overhaul for next year so this stuff doesn't happen again. He was on pace for around 200 hits and 60 steals, with a lead leading batting average, but he's now Jon Jay as a fourth outfielder in the playoffs despite being an elite player.

There's just something wrong with that picture...
