My question is can I add another guy to my 40 man even though the guys hurt are on my 40 without issues so I can add another guy to my MLB roster because I have no INF backups due to so many injuries.
You can add players to the 40 man roster to replace someone on the 60 day DL. When they come off the DL, they will be back on the 40 man roster though, so you'll have to outright someone to make room for them.

I may have just killed my season this past weekend. I lost all 7 of the games I played. I'm now 16 games below .500 in the middle of June.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Ahh just got swept in a 3 game series against the Orioles. That drops my Oakland Athletics to 24-23. I did make another minor trade to give speed to my bench. The Dodgers had Juan Pierre in AAA and a full OF (Manny, Kemp, Ethier and a 4th outfielder better than Pierre) and had a serious shortage of quality starting pitching. So I traded Sean Marshall for Juan Pierre. Now Marshall didn't do too well for me, but in simulated games he just dominates on the mound. He had a sub 3 ERA for the 09 and 10 seasons as a starter for the Cubs so this should definitely help out the Dodgers and gives me much needed speed on the bench.

Now my starting pitching was a serious problem early in the season and it's still not a strong point but it's been better. I promoted Gio Gonzalez about two weeks ago and he has made 3 strong starts pitching 18.2 innings and has a 2.5 ERA so far. Bronson Arroyo has been very inconsistent, he'll have an amazing day then he'll have an absolutely dreadful day his next start. Ian Snell was terrible for his first 4 or 5 starts I believe but since then he has been really strong doing great in his last few outings. Bartolo Colon is about in the same boat as Arroyo, a good outing then a poor one. Wil Ledezma has just been terrible, although he'll usually do good or decent until the 5th where he just unravels. He'd probably be better off in a long relief role where I don't need him to go 5+ innings.

Since we are just about done with May, I have looked around at some teams whom are way back in the race (at least 10+ GB) and who have impending FA starters they'd be willing to deal. One team I'm definitely monitoring is the Marlins. Both Ricky Nolasco and Josh Johnson are free agents after this year and I'd imagine would be open to trading them if they got a significant return. I really really want Nolasco (the better of the two in my 09 franchise) but it would definitely cost me more than Johnson would. I've got a bevy of A potential starting pitchers down in the minors along with two A potential position players. I'll probably try to get him with two of those pitchers and one of the position players. Now I'm going to wait a little to see if the Marlins really are out of it or if they go on a streak and decide they're in it because right now I think it's a little too early for them to let go of one of them right now. I don't want to wait too long though, because I'd hate to see someone else snatch one (or both) of them up.

Nice month.

I noticed you're having the same "problem" (if you can call it that) with A-Rod. Great average, but 1 K per game! LOL!

(shakes fist)

Sliders away!!!!!

Okay, now that I've got that out of my system. Go Yanks! Keep us posted.

I went through the draft, and it was pretty disappointing. I gave up a first rounder when I signed Rolen, and thought I would be getting one from Houston when they signed Dunn. They had the 14th pick though, which is protected. I ended up picking 14th and 29th in both the supplemental and 2nd rounds. I've never seen that many supplemental picks before. My first pick was an 18 year old CF with B potential. He looks like he could be good in 2-3 year. I got a C potential utility guy in the 2nd round, and then a few D potential guys to finish the draft. None of them look like major league material as anything more than backups. I won't even sign my last pick, who is an F overall and F potential.
Sorry your draft was less than stellar. I haven't had a first round pick for two straight drafts, and this last one I didn't even have a supplemental draft pick. My first pick was 30th of the second round. Needless to say, I got jack. Two D potential and one F potential players, all three had the highest power rating available at the time, so not a complete bust. Still terrible though. Career AA, with a slight chance to make some AAA appearances. If all goes well next draft, I have a shot at between 4 and 7 first round picks and just as many supplemental rounders. I am really hoping for a strong draft class.

I play Boston every year because them and the Yankees always make the playoffs, so I have to play one of them in the first round and usually the second in the next round. I forgot to mention about the Yankee series that they signed Rollins in the off season and put him at second (Cano went to Tampa). He was an all star, but they later got Zobrist in a trade and sat Rollins instead of Jeter. Rollins didn't play in the entire series despite being a far better player, which was quite fortunate for us. Typical of the Yankees, they had a lot of talent in the infield and not much going on in the outfield. Their outfield consisted of Elijah Dukes, Ryan Rayburn, and Lastings Milledge.

Our series got under way with Anderson facing off against Beckett. In the past, I have really destroyed Beckett, but this time he was able to put together a really solid pitching performance. Suzuki hit a solo shot off of him in the third and got a two run shot against him in the 5th. That was the extent of our scoring chances. Ellsbury went 3-3 with a walk and 4 steals. That kid can friggin run. We managed to take the game 3-1 though with another perfect bull pen outing. Just like New york, Boston is really stacked with talent, but they aren't using them that well. The have Adrian Gonzalez (weird coincidence), but they won't play him against lefty pitchers. They have Matt LaPorta to bat against righties and lefties, with Agon the DH for righties. The still have Youk as well, but he is a pinch hitter only.

The second game was the marques matchup: Tim Lincecum versus Roy Halladay. This game did not disappoint. Both starters went 7 innings, with Lincecum giving up 2 unearned runs and striking out 9. Halladay gave up no runs while striking out 8, but had a high pitch count. With my bull pen being so perfect, I opted to bring in Soria, Fuentes, and Bailey to finish out the game. 2-0 final score and series lead.

We went into Boston for game 3. I opted to use Gio so as not have to face AGon. They went with Tim Alderson. This was another straight up pitching duel. We managed to scrape together 4 runs, two on errors and two with small ball tactics. Ellsbury stole his way into scoring position twice and Grady Sizemore drove him in both times. We take the game 4-2.

Game four was Vin Mazarro versus Ben Sheets. I wish I could say this game was ****, but it turns out that Sheets did not bring his A game, nor did the rest of their offense. We got out to an early lead, chasing Sheets out in the third, and never looked back. Boston started to make some inroads when I brought in Greinke to get some work in, but couldn't capitalize enough before I pulled him for Ross. We win the game 9-3 and the series 4-0. Eat that Red Sox nation! We will be facing off against the Cincinnati Reds in the world series. First game will be at GABP thanks to Bailey's all star performance (gave up game winning home run).

I wasn't expecting you to be able to sweep Boston like that. I guess you're really making up for all the times they knocked you out of the playoffs. Are you playing all of the playoff games, or still simming a few to get through them faster?

I am playing every playoff game. I wasn't expecting to sweep Boston either, especially with my offensive woes right now (1 home run for Dunn and still none for Pena despite a 444 average), but our pitching has been amazing, out timely hitting has been coming through, and Boston just isn't playing well. Maybe all their players are past their prime. Only Sizemore and Ellsbury did anything with the bats. Their pitching was great the first three games, but they just ran out of steam. New York honestly put forth a much tougher fight. I don't know if they will be losing anyone in retirement or free agency, but they just don't seem like the same team they were the last few years. New York, on the other hand, should lose to retirement: Jeter, Tex, Berkman, and a couple of other players I can't remember off hand, as well as releasing C.C. right before spring training. Hopefully they won't be able to buy replacements in the market this year.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

I'm now 10-15 with my pirates franchise( all star timing hitting, veteran pitching). I'm on a 7 games losing streak, god it hurts lol! I don't know what i can do to improve this team, the bullpen make me crazy. The relievers can't protect a lead.

Here is a comparison between my starting rotation and my bullpen:
Ben sheets ( 1 year contract) 2-2, 4.09, 34k
James Mcdonald : 2-3, 2,79, 33k
Michael Pineda( give up 4 A prospect, in two trade for him): 1-0, 2.41, 43k (should be 5-0 but the bullpen mess it up)
Paul Maholm : 2-0, 2.16, 21k
Rudy Owens ( B prospect): 0-1, 3.24, 3k (one start)

Bullpen:
Scott Olsen: 0-1, 9.53, 10k
Kevin Correia: 1-2, 4.56, 17k
Jose Verras: 0-0, 5.09, 9k
Evan Meek: 1-1, 7.24, 12k
Joel Hanrahan: 0-1, 5.14, 7k
Jeff Karstens: 1-1, 6.75, 4k
Sean Gallagher: 0-2, 16.88, 3k
Ross Ohlendorf (trade him for Dontrelle Willis): 0-1, 11.17, 5k

Here is my offense number, i'm really proud of Alvarez and Jones pick them up if you have the chance:

Ronny cedeno: 333, 3hr, 12rbi, 6sb
Jose Tabata: 280, 2hr, 8rbi, 13sb
Andrew Mccutchen: 256, 4hr, 14rbi, 7sb
Pedro Alvarez: 303, 12hr, 20 rbi, 1sb
Garrett Jones: 395, 9hr, 19 rbi, 3sb
Lyle Overbay: 309, 3hr, 5 rbi
Neil Walker: 262, 5hr, 16rbi, 5sb
Ryan Doumit: 288, 0hr, 6rbi

Bench: I picked up Tony Gwynn Jr from the waiver i'm impress by him: 267, 2rbi,6 sb. I trade for Andruw Jones, he's a total loss right now...

Can you help me with my bullpen please.
thanks!

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Red Sox- Finally got over the .500 hump! Now 28-27
(I play every game, who else does?) We just went to Detroit & won 3 of 4 as we hit great all series and our SP was tremendous. It's good to see some guys heating up...such as youk, pedoria & Lowrie. Varitek got more playing time this wknd and responded well with 3 HRs and a triple. Lowrie hit his first 2 HRs of the season as well. Crawford is at .269 & Ellsbury is at .271. Gonzo is very consistent, staying around .300 all season with 19 HRs right now. Crawford leads the majors in SB w/ 36...man he can fly (36/38). We now return home for a 6 game home stand with the White Sox and A's for 3 each. Lester and Peavy square off tomorrow to start it all up.
Unfortunately, we're 10 gms behind the Yankees in 2nd place in the AL East.
