Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

With my Mets, I reached the series vs the Phillies. This is had the feel of an actual rivalry game, it was a great pitching matchup: Johan vs Hallady. I get down early 2-0 on a Victorino double, Murph the answered with a 2 run shot the next inning. Amazingly, I chased Hallady after "only" 6 innings. Pagan hit a 2 run bomb off Romero and Wright followed with a solo shot.

I go up 5-3 and the lead fell apart in the 7th and 8th, Polanco had an RBI and thorn-in-my-side Utley hit a solo shot. I was convinced i was doomed for a walkoff loss, considering my overworked bullpen. However, Reyes hit a 2 out 2 strike 2 run shot to go up 5-3. With all the lefties looming, Byrdak came in for 1-2-3 inning and preserved the win.

PHEW! i am now in a tie for first, 2 more games to go

This mode can be really deep. I spent 30 minutes last night on setting the Scouting Focus for all regions for all 30 teams last night. Well, I got tired of the Game AI always scouting and drafting relievers. It's just too bad you see so many scouts retire after the 1st year.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Hochevar started the first game against the Pirates, and left in the first after giving up 6 runs. We couldn't climb out of the hole, and lost our 6th consecutive game 10-6. I simmed to a win in the 2nd game, and had Hawksworth pitch the rubber game. He was outstanding, allowing a run on 5 hits in 7 innings. Up 4-1 in the 9th, Storen, Miller, and Calero combined to let the Pirates tie it up. Tied in the bottom of the 9th, we loaded the bases with one out, and I decided to pinch hit a slumping Rasmus. He hit a 1-2 curve 440 feet for a walkoff grand slam, and a series win.

The momentum didn't last, as Milwaukee got a sweep at home over us. I called up Shelby Miller to start the finale of the series. He has great movement on his pitches, but not great control. He needs another year or so in the minors. He didn't pitch horribly, but he ended up allowing 4 runs on 10 hits in only 4.2 innings. We're now tied for 3rd after losing 9 of 11 to end May.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Used the sportscast manager to finish up the month of September. Roy Halladay won the Cy Young and Tulo won MVP. Tulo finished second for the batting crown behind Denard Span, else he would have earned triple crown status. I think I am going to offer him a 7 year deal at $20 mil per, which will mean that I will eventually have to cut down on some of my pitchers when their contracts come up. In September, I let Drabek, Krol, Ross, de los Santos, and Pedro Figueroa get quite a few starts. I want Ross to be the long reliever, as he really excels in that role. Drabek and Krol are the front runners for starters next year, with de los Santos right there. I think I will move Figueroa, as he is getting older now and hasn't amounted to much. I need to get something out of him while he still has value. I also have that Kid, Barksdale, I picked up from the Reds and Michael Ynoa he is finally 20 years old and starting to get good. So losing some pitching won't kill me. I will probably move Bailey as well since his value is high and closers are easily replaced, especially ones with fake faces.

We went on to face the Yankees in the ALDS. The first game was Halladay versus Homer Bailey. First pitch of the game is an easy ground out. Second pitch is a strike, but then Halladay goes into that shoulder pain animation and is gone for the rest of the game. I bring in a cold Greinke since he is my odd man out. He gets through it unscathed. He gives up a solo shot to Berkman in the second and another a few innings later. He also gives up a bases loaded double to Arod and leaves after giving up 5 earned. Ross came in and kept the game where it was, but we could only manage to scrape together three runs to lose the opener and home field advantage. Luckily, Halladay was not hurt. Must have been a pinched nerve or something.

In game two, Brett Anderson was able to make quick work of their "against lefty" lineup, especially without Berkman playing. We went on to win that game and the next two to put the Yankees down like a rapid dog. Halladay came back for the third game for 7 shutout innings. Bull Pen did the rest and have yet to give up any runs in the post season. Boston also advanced to attempt to exact revenge for last year, which was our revenge for two previous years. In the NL, the Reds beat out the top seated Philles and the Dodgers took care of the wild card Braves. If we get past Boston, then we can exact revenge on either the Dodgers or the Reds for 88 and 90 respectively.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Thought I would ask in here because all of you are franchise buffs.

I have 4 SS's and a 2B on DL. I have 2 of my guys from the 40 man roster on the 60 day DL and have noticed they are not on the 40 man roster anymore.

Is that so I can add another guy to bring up while they are injured?

I only had 1 guy in the minors as a infielder on my 40 man because well, they suck and didn't think I would get this many guys from 1 position hurt and was wondering if it's the way I think it is and can add a guy while they on the 60 day DL and not have it effect anything other than a option and possible waiver wire to pull them back off the 40 man.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

It's really kind of funny that you seem to play Boston every single year in the playoffs. Good job knocking the Yanks out again. I can't even stand the virtual version of them.

I went through the draft, and it was pretty disappointing. I gave up a first rounder when I signed Rolen, and thought I would be getting one from Houston when they signed Dunn. They had the 14th pick though, which is protected. I ended up picking 14th and 29th in both the supplemental and 2nd rounds. I've never seen that many supplemental picks before. My first pick was an 18 year old CF with B potential. He looks like he could be good in 2-3 year. I got a C potential utility guy in the 2nd round, and then a few D potential guys to finish the draft. None of them look like major league material as anything more than backups. I won't even sign my last pick, who is an F overall and F potential.

That is correct, those guys on DL don't count against your MLB roster.

I know that, but I was referring to the 40 man rosters and 60 day DL. I had 40 guys on my 40 man roster, but if put on the 15 day DL they stay on the 40 man roster, but putting them on the 60 day DL they are off my 40 man roster meaning I only have 38 guys currently on it.

My question is can I add another guy to my 40 man even though the guys hurt are on my 40 without issues so I can add another guy to my MLB roster because I have no INF backups due to so many injuries.
