Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Finally got my Nats franchise going
I decided to do this season as I ran my 10 season and did surprisingly well (Allstar- Meter pitch zone hit)

We are sitting at 2-0 so far (and I decided to use Strasburg... I will start an opening day roster update chise without him until at least september!) Only other changes I've made is using Ballester over Broderick (not in game) and Bernadina over Nix.... felt like with Stairs I had the power option off the bench and wanted some speed.

My pitching has been very good so far in our 4-3 and 5-4 wins! (3.50 ERA)
Game 1--- Strasburg got hit hard in the 5th (4h 2ER) but that's all he allowed through 7. I decided to go with Rodriguez in the 8th because he has mid 90's velocity (which I thought would be a good compliment after Strasburg) and he allowed nothing but a lead off single. I then brought in Storen with a 4-2 lead in the 9th to close it out. He allowed a run but managed to save the game.

Game 2--- Jordan Zimmerman was pitching well and had only one run heading into the 7th. After getting into a jam and a lefty coming up I made a double switch to bring in Burnett who pitched a scoreless 1 1/3 innings and had a 5-3 lead heading into the 9th. Storen again allowed a run but managed to close it out. I will probably give him a day off (Sunday game) but will not change closers yet. If he continues to give up runs or starts blowing saves I will move to a closer by committee rotation.

Hitting has been attrocious. I have struck out 24/48 outs (13 Gm1 11 Gm 2 & havent batted in btm 9th!) and am hitting a mear .178. We tagged Hudson with a Pudge solo shot in the 2nd and a Morse 3 run blast in the 3rd in game one , but only managed 4 hits (to atls 8). In Game 2 we had a 3 run 3 hit first but only managed another 3 hits. Morse is on fire (batting ~ .500) and Pudge has a few hits/RBI's but everyone else is struggling. We have drawn 6 walks so far, but I am struggling to put the ball in play! I will take being 2-0 but hope to turn around our hitting fortunes.

What is everyone doing in regard to Knight's rosters?

Will you be starting your franchises now, or will you wait approx. a week for the final update to be released??

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Aaggghhh. Jose Valverde has just blown the game for the fourth time in three games. All against the Red Sox in Fenway.

First Scherzer pitched a 3 hit 1 run gem through seven. Zumaya gave up a solo shot in the eighth and I enter the 9th with a 5-2 lead. In comes Valverde, who then proceeds to give up a 2-out three run homer to Adrian Gonzales to send it to extras. I managed to get a run in the tenth and decided to leave Valverde in and he burns me again as ortiz hits a solo shot over the monster. Luckily I won it 7-6 in 14.

The next two games I wasn't so lucky. With a one run lead in the ninth Boston hit a walkoff both nights and both off of Valverde. The first by Crawford and the second by Gonzalez.

I think im going to make Zumaya my closer and/or try to trade Valverde.

Ouch - it seems like Valverde just isn't playing well for you! If you do pitch well with Zumaya, I'd absolutely make him your closer for now - and move Valverde to the set-up role. If he keeps letting you down, it might be worth it to try and move him - see if you can acquire a prospect (or two) to solidify a future need.

It could just be a vs. Red Sox thing.

Valverde has always been money for me... do you use his splitter enough to get guys off balance? Thing is, with Zoom is that he tends to give up a lot of homeruns, for me at least (he's good for one every 2 IP, LOL.) - although in my short season, he has pitched well, and is actually 2-0 thru 12 games (5 appearances), with Valverde being 4/4 on save opps. Try him out tho, and see if it works for you... you also have Perry and Soria as options.

Well... actually the splitter is what has killed me the most. If I miss even the slightest bit it hangs and I get shelled.

Zumaya has been solid so far for me 2 HR in 14 appearances. In a one run game I might be hesitant to put him in but with a two or three run lead I have confidence that he can get it done. I will be testing out different guys before I actually decide to try and trade valverde and heck maybe it was just a fluke. Also... Soria is on my 60-day DL right now. Were still 7 games above .500 and the Sox were like 34-9 though so we'll be alright I think.

Yankees 2011 Opening Day. What a way to start the 2011 season for the Yankees. CC pitched great..7 innings allowing only 1 run. Cano went 4-4 with a 3 Run HR.

Enjoy the highlights!!!

I really want to start my franchise, but I don't want to do 30 team control so I suppose I have to wait for the patch. I really hope it's out within a week...

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Started my Jays franchise this morning, pretty pumped! Some surprising things happened during Spring Training for my club. John McDonald was the best player on the team and earned a starters job. Alex Gonzalez & Josh Towers, who were *non-roster invitees* played well enough to make the club (more-so Towers, though A-Gone showed the most pop on the club). Jesse Litsch was traded, as well as some of the bullpen depth. Oh, low and behold, Dustin McGowan was also placed on the 60-Day DL.

Here it is;
