How do you handle under performing veterans?

I'm asking this because I'm trying to figure out the most realistic and best solution for my team. Playing as the Diamondbacks I've got two veteran players, Doug Davis (getting shelled consistently) and Tony Clark (batting .063) who are both having a shaky start to the season. Now realistically I'm going to stick with the two of them for a bit since it's still the end of April in my franchise, but if things don't turn around I'm going to have to make some moves.

I don't think I could see the Dbacks sending either of these guys to AAA if they were not injured unless they were really just brutal on the field. But I've got some your talent I could plug into the rotation and in a bench role, I just don't know what I'd do with these guys. My first move would be to move Davis to the bullpen but I'm curious to see how you guys handle your rosters, your call ups and your veteran players.

I usually move them down the lineup, then start plugging the youngsters in. April still early, so I would give them the chance too snap back before doing something drastic.. If all else, put them on the trading block especially if they are at the end of their contract. I try not to cut them, unless there is a free agent that you'd be interested in.

Davis to the bullpen is not a bad move. You could always DFA them. If no one claims them, then you could release them or send them down. Or Davis for a C or D Prospect makes some sense. Clark, I think the first two options are most likely.

Re: How do you handle under performing veterans?

I normally am very short on patience with the vets on the game. If they struggle I try and move them for the best prospect I can in a position of need. Occasionally if I like the guy i'll move em down in the lineup or bullpen, try and get through it but when things don't work they get shipped out.

I don't trade a ton but Vets with big contracts and players that aren't performing better watch it as they will be wearing new unis in a hurry if they don't shape up haha.
