2009 Los Angeles Dodgers

Never to early to get this thread going.

Big questions for the off-season:

Will Manny stay?

Can we get a top line pitcher like Peavy or C.C.?

Who will play up the middle for the boys in blue?

Just a few questions that need to be answered. But I am sure The Chef, Mr. Wednesday, DTX, and myself are ready for Opening Day '09.

Time to repeat as champs.

BOO! I was suppose to make the thread! J/P

Should be interesting to see how everything unfolds before spring training. Alot of options for Colletti and the McCourts this off-season. I heard the Yankees are going to look at Manny, whether that means they'll offer him a deal or not is yet to be seen. Resigning Manny would be HUGE for our squad, and I'd LOVE to see either Pevy or C.C. in Dodger Blue.

The Dodger beat writer answered one of my questions on the mailbag section on the website.

Re: 2009 Los Angeles Dodgers

Isnt DeWitt going to be penciled in at 2b this year? What do you guys think of the rumor that Furcal might end up in Oakland? I like him but he can be terribly inconsistent in the field and that drives me nuts at times. This team needs power in a big way if we dont bring Manny back, Kent is gone isnt he? Loney isnt hitting for power at all, Ethier started to turn it on in the power department so hopefully he can help in that area next season but if all we focus on is pitching then we will be back to where we were a few years ago when we were constantly trying to win 2-1, 3-2 etc type games and always walking that fine line.

What are the plans next year for Scott Elbert?
-- Kevin R., Charlotte, N.C.

For now, he's a reliever, likely to replace Joe Beimel as the second left-hander behind Hong-Chih Kuo. Elbert could probably help the Major League club soonest in that role. If he did not make the Major League club as a reliever, he would probably be returned to starting in the Minors. Because of shoulder surgery, he missed most of the 2007 season and his innings were limited in '08, so starting in the Minor Leagues would provide extra innings for him to develop. It would be a big leap to consider him for a Major League starting spot considering his limited professional experience.

And FYI, Bills broke his leg.

Re: 2009 Los Angeles Dodgers

I read about Bills breaking his leg but all I heard was he slipped at his home, have you heard anything more specific?

Re: 2009 Los Angeles Dodgers

Here is what it said on LADodgers.com

http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/ne...t=.jsp&c_id=la

Quote:
LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers right-hander Chad Billingsley suffered a broken left fibula Friday night when he slipped on ice in front of his home in Reading, Pa. Billingsley, 24, sustained a spiral fracture of the fibula, the smaller of the two bones in the shin, according to the Dodgers. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Paul Neuman, after consulting with Dodgers surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache, inserted a plate in an operation Saturday to allow for the fracture to heal. Billingsley's landing leg will be in a cast for two weeks.
The Dodgers reported that the surgery went as planned and the club expects Billingsley to be healed and available to begin throwing bullpen sessions at the beginning of Spring Training and to be ready for the 2009 season.
Former Dodgers pitcher Dave Stewart, Billingsley's agent, spoke by phone with the pitcher before and after the operation.
"He said they had their first snow of the year last night and he came out the front door and just slipped," Stewart said. "He was bummed at first when they told him it was broken. But after the surgery, he was fine.
"The doctors said it turned out to be much better than they originally thought, because they thought it might have been really bad. After the surgery, Chad felt well enough to watch his favorite college football team, Notre Dame. But the way that went [a one-point loss to Syracuse], I told him he should let the medication set in and go to sleep. He laughed."
Billingsley is expected to be released from the hospital Sunday.
Hopefully he will be ready by spring training.
