2008 San Francisco Giants Thread

So guys what does it look like for us this year? I'm banking on more losses than home runs.

we need two big hitters at 3rd and 1st, hope the bullpen can come through big time, meaning wilson esp., and hope the starters will be as good as we know they are, then i don't think we will be to far off of contending, but thats an awful lot of ifs and hope's

Re: 2008 San Francisco Giants Thread

We gotta cut down on giving up 2 out base hits/rallies and also cut down on leaving guys in scoring position. So many times last year we would have a guy a third less than 2 outs and it seemed we could not get it done.

Also we have got to let our speed be known and be a presence in the game. Remember what Jose Reyes did to Benitez last year (caused Benitez to balk in a run which probably unsettled him allowing him to give up walkoff to delgado). I understand Reyes is amazingly fast but there is no reason why we should not draw more fastballs from the pitchers giving our guys better pitches to hit.

Also there should be a rule where Vinnie Chulk is not allowed to pitch to Scott Hairston esp if Cain was the starting pitcher.

I am excited for the new season, hoping the younger guys succeed, and maybe surprising the world with a competitive season.

Ray Durham going down with a season ending injury would be a plus. He'll be of as much use on the field as he would be on the DL. Anything that gets Frandsen/Velez onto the field would be a plus.

Well Ray Ray is aching again...when do we just give up on him?

This year is going to be fun. I get to watch a lot more games live, because we will not be competitive and seats will be available. Our cleanup hitter is Molina...yes he got it done last year.. but it takes miracles for him to stretch out a triple. And he needs to be standing on third to score with any hit. Poor Rowand, his RBI's will be shot. Our only gleam of light is our starters. I really think we have the most solid 1-4 in baseball. And if Sanchez develops...

But we need bats, power is one thing, yes its nice to have but our park really caters to line drive hitters. Not as many players are juiced up anymore so our park is playing even bigger.

We may surprise people. If our youth gets a chance to play, and the clubhouse comradery improves, I think we can take 4th in the West.

Normally the ST record doesn't concern me, but there isn't much to show me that this won't be the case all year.

I've always thought Bay Area fans were out there, but really? This team will be staring 100 losses in the face come September.

For some reason I don't see the Pads having a 27 game swing in losses this year.

Stranger things have happened though.

I work with several Giants' fans and I've offered them all $20 bets on whether the Giants can finish in 4th this year. So far, I have no takers.

Heck, I got 3 of them to take the bet for 3rd last year, so I thought 4th would be no sweat.

I think this team might shock some. I know the clubhouse is better this year.
