2008 Cincinnati Reds

Figured I'd just create a new one for the new season. It bothers me that the 2007 one was started by a member who is now banned. Maybe that's why the Reds had issues last year. CaliBuck jinxed them.

so what will be the excuse this year when Dusty Baker runs Aaron Harang into the ground and the Reds finish in last place?

ahh yeah I know I'm being cynical, but trading away Hamilton for two question marks of pitchers and hiring Dusty Baker haven't exactly boosted my confidence in the team.

No one will run Harrang into the ground, the guy is a horse.
If you are a true Reds fan you would understand the Reds had way too many OF's and they picked up one of the best pitching prospects in baseball for Hamilton. You do realize that Josh was on the DL 3 different times last year dont you?? I think all the years of being a user have taken a toll on his body.
The Reds will be alot better this year, if Homer Bailey can be a decent starter.
They are a better team just by signing a great closer like Cordero. The Reds blew the most saves in baseball last year.

Yeah I was being pessimistic in my previous post. I actually do think the Reds will do well this season compared to last year.

I do agree with your assessment of Hamilton. He may never play a full season, but the more I hear about the pitches we got, the less I like the trade.

I heard on the radio the other day that the Reds are close to signing Jeremy Affeldt. I always thought he had solid stuff was stuck on a bad team in Kansas City before playing in some games for the Rockies last year.

Yes they did sign Jeremy Affeldt to a 1 year 3 million deal.
They would like for him to make the rotation but if he doesnt he would make our bullpen alot better.

And that's the signing we needed. Someone who has experience and can pitch a little. He should be solid as a back of the rotation guy in case these young pitchers we have don't pan out just yet. I like it.

Clearly, Affeldt doesn't have the most impressive resume. But he played in KC. Reds haven't been to the postseason in a while, but we aren't KC. He should pitch well enough.

LHP: Affeldt's best pitches are a fastball and a sinking curveball. Does anyone know his fly ball/ground ball ratio? we definitely need his SCB to sink a hella @ GAB

Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds

on my way to lunch earlier today, I caught an interview with Brandon Phillips on the local sports radio station. Here is what I got from it:

-he wants nothing to do with his contract issues. He says his agent is handling everything and that he just wants to play baseball. He went on further, saying he wanted to play in Cincinnati for the rest of his career.

-the team was enthused by the signing of Francisco Cordero. Phillips said it was nice to see management go after a guy that they believe can help them win right away.

-Phillips has spoken only once with Griffey this offseason, and all Griffey talked about was playing golf.

-Phillips has met with Baker a few times and said the two clicked right away and that he is looking forward to playing for Baker.

-Phillips said his closest friend on the team is Todd Coffey and equated it to Rob and Big (a show on MTV for those of you who don't know what that is), but with Phillips being Rob and Coffey being Big.

-Phillips does not like Gold Star Chili and doesn't enjoy anything with large amounts of meat in it. He especially hates meat loaf.
