I love the look of the offense, aside from Bell and Lieberthal. We should be a solid defensive club. It all boils down to our pitching....

IMO, too many question marks. Will Myers and Floyd start pitching like the studs they're expected to be? Can Gordon close? Will Madson's transition from setup man to starter be a smooth one?

Re: 2006 Philadelphia Phillies Thread

Well, we're playing in the right park for the team we've built, that's for sure.

As you stated, the lineup is stacked. The keys will be Rollins and Rowand. We all know the middle is great and we all know the 7-8-9 will be junk. Although I'm hopeful that Bell's back will eventually just totally quit on him and we can play Nunez at 3B. However, the key will be at the top of the lineup. If those guys can get on base reliably so that we're not hitting a bunch of solo HRs, the offense will be great.

The pitching....ugh. Since Schilling left, we've had no ace and that's true once again this year. There's nobody who can take that ball every 5th day and give you a quality start and I don't think Myers is ever going to develop into that guy. Floyd has looked solid this Spring, but our rotation is made up of 3rd and 4th starters. And our bullpen, well....I lack confidence.

The one encouraging thing is that from the moves Gillick is making these days, it seems like he wants to win regardless of the moves necessary to make that happen. He acquires Rodriguez, then dumps him. He isn't afraid to move Franklin to the pen in favor of Floyd. After seeing Wade become so committed to lousy players after spending money on them, it's nice to see Gillick evaluating talent instead of that talent's price tag.

I could see us being within striking distance within the last month of the season. But when that time comes, unless someone makes some major strides this season, there will be nobody you can rely on to give you a big game starting pitching performance. And that's what's going to kill this team.

Btw, it sounds like Coste is the front runner for the last bench spot. GO COSTE!!!

You guys don't deserve your own thread . Anyway just a horribly played game today for Philly. Just one of those games where you just want to get it over with and come back to play tomorrow.

Says the Cowboys and Braves fan from New Jersey...

Stop it, now....just stop it.

This game is embarrassing...and Pujols just went deep again. Absolutely pathetic.
