2006 Cincinnati Reds

Well, we have new ownership (that wants to win - not break even), a new GM, Wily Mo has been traded, etc. The Reds might get pounded this year but at least there is hope for the future. That hope being the deal with Adam Dunn and having the right kind of environment (i.e. positive and winning attitude) in place with the new ownership and GM Wayne Krivsky.

Anyone able to get Opening Day tickets? I didn't even try. Been shut out online the last couple of years. Some friends of mine got those package deals with Opening Day, the fireworks nights, and Indians series though.

Re: 2006 Cincinnati Reds

I am looking for opening day tickets, but the prices are outrageous. I mean, people are charging $100 a piece for $15 face value tickets! What is worse, is that a lot of these overpriced tickets will go unused, and the stadium will be half empty as usual. If anyone has extra tix at a reasonable price, please PM me, I am looking for 2-8 tickets.

As far as the team, Arroyo is a groundball pitcher and should bring instant help to a bad staff. Harang will be his usually solid self, and if we can get Milton back to form, the staff could surprise this year. Claussen is very up and down, and Williams has good stuff, but GAB makes the best pitchers look bad with it's "vacuum effect."

Hitting for power isn't a problem, hitting for contact, especially with runners in scoring position is, and has been. We have some good contact guys in the line-up now with Freel, Womack, and Hatterberg though, so hopefully the BA will improve a little. We also have some speed, which should give us more runners in scoring position at bats. It's hard to be optimistic as a Reds fan, but I think they could have a good year if they stay healthy. Here's to hoping. As long as we aren't out of it by May again, I will be satisfied!

Re: 2006 Cincinnati Reds

Opening week is my spring break week and as I live about 90 min south of the stadium I was hoping to go up for a game. I'm not even going to try for opening day, but the second Cubs game or a Pirates game, will those be hard to get tickets for?

Arroyo is a fly-ball pitcher.

Eh, maybe not. Not sure how the Business Day special (2nd game of the year) against the Cubs will do attendance-wise. People that got shut out for Opening Day might go to that one instead. I think your best bet might be that Thursday game against the Pirates (4/6 @ 7:10). Got a feeling that weekend series against them might be crazy since it's the first chance people might go down. It's weird in this town. There have been years where the 2nd or 3rd home game of the season has nobody there and sometimes it's pack. Have no idea what it will be like this year.

He's definately a gamer and a guy I want to see do well (except against the Pirates of course ), but I'm not sure his skills match well with Cincy's ballpark. Kind of like former Pirates Josh Fogg and Jose Mesa going to Colorado.

True. Arroyo gave up 24 HR's last season and that number can only climb playing in Cincinnati and having to go to Wrigley Field and Coors Field won't help.

Don't forget the Tee ball park in Philly.

Anyway, I think having Arroyo on the staff is good. He did reasonably well against AL hitting, which is better than NL, and he did it in a hitter's park so the transition will not be bad at all. Plus you must remember that he's always had to fight fot a spot in the rotation whereas in Cincy he's guaranteed one. Arroyo will not dazzle us, and he will not post all-star numbers, but he will be better than what we used to have, and that's all I care about.

Re: 2006 Cincinnati Reds

Just an FYI for anyone interested, Arroyo is starting today on ESPN against the Red Sox. I think the game is at 1:00. Heard all that on the radio this morning when I was half asleep.
